a good move i would say but a car needs something else .Sensors inputs fromt he surroundings , distance etc... will help make it better .We need to understand accidents do happen mostly from other vehicles and hence real time info of the surroundings is needed . All in all nice to see such a move .

any data that can be provided with more accuracy is always welcome not only by the law but also to the public, the initial introduction of this car black box may face its fare share of questions of market survival and so on but eventually its an important device that will do well sooner if not later.

It is more relevant in india. where traffic is messy and policing/juditiary is corrupt and don't respect truth. It avoids rich and powerful escaping from clutches of law.Insurer may find it useful and may force to be made mandatory. Should be priced reasonable. Avoids road rages definitely.

actually in india its still not relevant as tech advancment in traffic contrl is not upto par..evn small things such as lane cuttin, zebra crossin, signal brk r still not understud and implementd seriously.. so even if black box r provided it wont do any good in preventin accidents.. wht we need in india is to prvent accidents from happenin... as the sayn goes "Prevention is betr than cure".. we shud try findin the root causes rathr than providin goodies in automobile wich wud rathr incrs cost of the vehicle and provide not as much output as the cost..

From the various responses of my friends who are in support of black boxes in cars, I am in doubt as to the reason of the black box's existence. I understood that the black box was put in flights so that with the information collected, further tragedies can be prevented. Was its intention to help insurance companies? Even if it was, suppose a person who has drunk too much drives his car home and has an accident. As he is alone in the car, what will the black box record? If only insurance claims are the question, then why in cars only-why not on rickshaws-cheap versions?

the approach should be towards reducing accidents through better traffic management and encouraging driving discipline. Black box don't answer them. Over so many years there are adequate reasons and evidences to come up with top 10 reasons behind road accidents...... even without black boxes ...... the costs of installing and analysing the results are not worth passing on to the consumers indirectly .. they are already paying the price with their lives and blood through these accidents

This is a ridiculous concept. In planes, black boxes pick up conversation in cockpit and certain signals which allows society to find out why an accident occured so that it can be prevented in future. In cars, accidents can happen for so many reasons and you do not know that something is going to happen until it happens in 10-20 secs. In this short time, unless the to be casualty defines the reasons in this short span of seconds before he dies/injured; all that the box will record will be irrelevant conversation. This is not going to help. In a flight, the pilots know that they will crash before some time from the actual crash

"I think not Required..In Airplanes Pilot will be communicating with Control Room. From control room he will be getting Guidance and all but not the case with cars accidents happens in a fraction of second and normally in cars accidents happen because of Driver faults not with machinery Problems. If we want to find out the accident we can better install CCTV camera inside the car its economical too..
