The Question is not "can India replicate Las Vegas". The question is "Can India become a gambling destination". What do we need to make this happen? Money (spare money), intent to spend/gamble away, spare time and infrastructure. I believe Gujarat Government can create infrastructure - whatever it takes. Money can be looked at in two ways : Indian money and International money. Well, Indian money is there but it is still not that spare!. When spare money is there, intent to spend (gamble away) will also come. International money will take some time to flow in. One can make spare time. therefore the answer is...It is possible but it takes some time to happen. Meanwhile, the infrastructure providers and investors have to promote this project meticulously. Las Vegas is a brand. It is built over many decades. We are just launching a brand now. It is good to have a destination and there is a long way to go

Rather it shouldnt because the way it is, casino's in india would be used as another medium for politicians to wash of their dirth money by converting black into white. Alongwith it come the problems of addiction, drugs and alchohol. Their are a plethora of ways to boost tourism and certainly this cant be the way to do it. Definitely not in Gandhiji's birth place. As it is the younger generation has no time or place for rich cultural heritage of our country. A casino would only further that by weaning them away from what ever little descipline and respect that is left in our society. We would soon go the american way where materialistic ambitions would tempt even the most ordinary of human being to commit a crime.

Thanks for the referral Mr.Amit Madhav. I agree with your view. I will not support money coming from gambling. It is not advisable to make one State of India as a gambling destination. No doubt gambling is there in some other form in India which negligible, of course. But the above decision will pave the way for other States to follow. Is it necessary for the suffering people to suffer further.

Las Vegas can not be replicated by India or any other country for that matter. But the question is wheather we need gambling to prosper in India. On the one hand we are against the lottery and money being laundered in bets on the matches in India and abroad. And on the other we are thinking in terms of making India a gambling destination. One fails to understand the policy makers' way of thinking. I think there is a serious misunderstanding of the facts by somebody. Let us wait and watch.

India is a country (in particularly Gujrat) where people actually offer prayers to the Goddess of money - "Laxmi" than hw 'll they disdain her by investing there money in gambling. People here believe in investing in property, gold, bank deposits, etc,... and they'' not agree with this comcept of increasing tourism....

It is a good idea by the Gujarat Govt. to increase tourism in the state, but to replicate it at the Las Vegas level may be a difficult proposition. However, a lot of in-depth planning and other efforts may need to be taken if the govt. wants to even achieve a modicum of success as Las Vegas....

I agree with Amit completely on the subject. Yes such thing will increase tourist visit in the state. The site has been selected very cleaverly since hardly anybody visit Runn of Kutch. Nothing can be replicated say for example Taj Mahal, Bangl desh tried one it looks like made by some child.

India and any country who chooses this direction can become a gambling destination but to match Las Vegas, I will say outright no. Any country in the world can build a Taj Mahal but will it be the same as the original in India. 'Las Vegas is a city that barely needs an introduction. From its top-of-the-line resorts, shopping and dining to its exciting entertainment and nightlife, Las Vegas has earned its place as one of the world’s premier tourist destinations. Nevada’s largest city has long outgrown its adult playground moniker and is no longer just a gambling Mecca.'
