Microsoft Corp. is creating a social-games hub in partnership with CrowdStar International Ltd., the second-largest maker of such titles on Facebook.

Microsoft is overhauling the MSN Games site to let players compete with each other across Web properties including Bing Games and Windows Live Messenger, the companies said today in a statement. Players using the Microsoft Game Hub will be able to see each others’ scores across the Microsoft platforms and Facebook Inc.’s social network. Can Microsoft be successfull in these social games??

Microsoft according to me is a tad too late, and people like to play these social games on their social networking sites, and not specific sites like bing games or on their windows live messenger. Facebook was a hit mainly due to the combination of both social networking and its games. Also Games on social networks such as Facebook and MySpace are free of charge. The makers generate revenue by selling virtual goods.  So Microsoft doing great here is somewhat rarity according to me.

Microsoft is most clearly a bit too late, customer loyalty does exist and people already in the networking sites like FB would not be leaving in a hurry. If at all they want to succeed they need to gear towards a new segment market and include some USP's that may attract the old faithfuls. But, I have my doubts...

Thanx for referral Amrita,

Yes. Social network Games takes an edge over the MS games.Still now, except US, people look at MS only as an Office-package offering Company. Whereas, FB started off with a bang, as Social network, it enables more visibility to user than the MS. However, we can not but to, appreciate their effort to increase the vista in GAMES and value to  Customers & trying a bit to retain its Market through various strategy such as this.

It may be difficult for Microsoft to do well in the social networking/games arena, especially if they plan to overhaul the MSN games site. By focusing on too many activities, they may not be able to do well in key areas.

They are still trying to improve their search capabilities vis-a-vis Google for many years and they have still not succeeded.

Thanks for the referral, Amrita...

Microsoft is lagging behind in terms of innovation. Apple, Google are taking the lead. There hasnt been a single product by Microsoft in the recent history which is actually an innovation. Have u seen Windows craze??
