It’s no secret that Zynga has actively targeted the Asian gaming market in its international expansion strategy. The gaming giant recently bought Japanese gaming startup Unoh, took a $150 million investment from Japan’s SoftBank Capital, acquired Chinese game developer XPD Media and set up a Beijing office. Today, this expansion is culminating in the beta launch of Zynga’s first internationally localized game, Zynga Texas Poker, in traditional Chinese.

Zynga Poker, the company’s first ever social game, launched in July 2007 and is currently the third most popular game on Facebook globally with more than 28 million people playing monthly. Now, the game is available in China as well as on Facebook in Hong Kong and Taiwan as Zynga Texas Poker and can be played in traditional Chinese or English. Of course, Zynga’s game is only available on Facebook in Hong Kong and Taiwan as Facebook is largely blocked in mainland China.

Is going local the best thing to capture the market??

I think an organization like Facebook can afford these things to get more and more users glued on to facebook by going local, and the first thing they have started is by putting a game across, and poker is widely played across the world, and In china things work it it is in local language and not in english, thats why Google is still trying to crack chinese market, as Baidu with its chinese language is the no.1 search engine in China, and here Facebook are doing the right thing by rolling out local language based social gaming, remember the population that china has.

we need single platform for anything to go global, and now by making local games for chinese, its just deviating from developing something can be a hit all over the world, than investing huge chunk of money for a single market like china which is really an unknown territory, and I dont think having local games will get them more number of users for them.

Most gaming coppanies try various techniques in order to increase revenues. One technique that mostly works is having games in the local language. Thus, local social games help the company to penetrate the domestic audience in a better manner as compared to games in an international language like english.

This strategy works as it helps to build a better rapport with the local audience and the audience is better able to relate to the game.....

Yes Nowadays this is very common site that most of the social networking sites are coming up with this idea. The purpose behind is to make these sites more interactive. We can participate on several online games on these sites making these local would make it more easier henceforth..as language should not come as a barrier.
