Hi,

This topic is a subject of intense dilemma and doubt in the minds of several NRIs who are working/studying abroad and on the path to make a move back to India for continuing/pursuing a challenging career.

Say for e.g. - my case - after having worked in India, I chose to do a higher education in a top notch university in the United States. As I draw close to finishing the education, and planning to move back to home, I am in the process of applying to several positions to openings in pharmaceutical companies all across India. So much to my amusement and disappointment, I seldom receive any acknowledgment for my applications, unlike my applications to elsewhere - say in US or in Europe or in Singapore.

Such a lack of response from the recruiting companies in India makes me wonder, whether I am not a fit candidate or whether job application to positions in India involves a different strategy.

Thoughts and inputs from anyone here will be helpful.

This answer is with my personal experience from relocation to India and keeping it simple and straight for a job search - bear in mind, if a NRI is returning back with family (wife and kids) it is more fun and complex strategy!!!

NRI returning has higher expectations on salary, position being offered by the company and many a times would like to be into the driving seat.  Also NRIs cultivates a different set of cultural habits (saying No for some work, prioritise work, reporting lines etc..) which may not suite to Indian situation.

This puts lot of stress on HR to select NRI resumes so easily, hence networking comes into picture, where in some friend or family person can talk a little bit more than the text in the resume.

A simple strategy is find a job in US/UK and come to India on deputation or permanent transfer.  This will always give a good opportunity to offshore work to India as well as build confidence to the parent organisation located in foreign soil due to relationships built already.

Absolutely no. Uniforms should not be allowed even in the schools is what I feel. Whatever be the economic strata of an individual, they must be allowed to express their personalities through their attire. And yes, this is a silly topic to discuss.
