Indian government is planning to provide voting rights to Non-Resident Indians and steps are being taken to make it a reality, Law and Justice Minister Veerappa Moily has said. "The Law ministry has initiated a scheme to provide voting rights to NRIs and it will become a reality soon," Moily told members of the Indian Overseas Congress (UK) London last evening.

The NRI's demand for right to vote in India was pending for long, the Law Minister said "necessary legislation for that purpose would be enacted soon. But, will it change anything by allowing NRI's to Vote in Indian politics?? what are  your views on this??

It will bring everyone closer to their country. They will be able to understand what all is happening in the country as well as participate in key decision making issues.

This would give them a sense of belonging and urge to come back to their motherland.

Yes it will bring a good change for that matter, in NRI's we have a knowledgeable crowd and not many like in India who vote just on false promises and cast their important vote for money and other things, the same thing cannot be expected from the NRI's and they will vote only for a candidate on his merit and not based on his religion and other factors, and it is said that there are 22 million NRI's world wide, but it needs to be seen how and in which process the voting will appear, whether it will happen constitution wise as it happens in India, and based upon their location in India, or something else, but with that huge number of 22 million people casting their vote will be a huge factor in India politics.

NRIs FORMING A SMALL % ARE NOT FROM ONE PARTICULAR STATE OR REGION.THEY ARE FROM VARIOUS TOWNS/CITIES IN DIFFERENT STATE. A SMALL % OF VOTES IN A VAST COUNTRY LIKE OURS WILL HAVE NO IMPACT IN THE OVERALL SITUATION.
