Indian companies received a bad news from US President Barack Obama on Wednesday, when in his first address to the Congress he said that there will be no tax breaks in outsourcing.

"I will stop giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas, and I will start giving them to companies that create good jobs right in America," said Obama in a speech.

Will this effect Outsourcing projects to India ????

I definitely feel America is now in a very precarious situation with respect to their economy. The economy is battered and millions of US citizens are losing jobs. At this juncture Obama is right in curtailing outsourcing when their own people suffer and it is the only way ahead...Americans/europeans are highly skilled and everything in the world discovered or software written by them. Also now US citizens may work for lesser pay like Indians till the situation revives. India too would have done the same if they had been in the same position as US. This step will definitely hurt us as our dependency is more on international markets (US).....

I dont feel so coz if we look at the cost benifit that the US co's get from outsoursing is much more higher that the tax benifit that will be offered to them. And lest say if the outsoursing is stoped is the US consumer ready to pay the price!!!

I dont feel that they can get IT developers as cheap as they get in india.

Bad time brings people together and this move by Obama is of their National interest. Implementation of what he said, will create more opportunities in USA for IT work, which will be a direct cut on the work being done at outsourcing companies. The only question then remains for the US companies who are forced to use local manpower is, whether this effort is economically viable.

Sad but yes. America has to return its jobs back to the americans that are goverment dependant , or living off unemployment. With 3.5 million out of work here, you can bet huge cuts.

Darpan & Chand, there is already reduction in offshoring & Indian Cos are not able to get deals from foreign counterparts. Earlier also Industry leaders predicted that the IT sector would not be affected by the global financial turmoil as companies in developed countries would outsource more of their functions abroad to save money during the crisis but this theory has been proved wrong once again when you can see so many layoffs, cost cutting etc in India & other countries where projects were outsourced earlier for example the latest one Accenture is laying off almost half its workforce in the Philippine capital due to the effects of the global financial crisis. The moves like not availing tax cuts will add more to injury & will not be of any help to the sector. Also I have to agree with Brijesh on the sentiment factor.....

Indian companies are doing layoffs, cost cutting etc & still you are saying it will not be effected. I don't understand why??? Darpan you gave the right logic but what about the sentiment factor for American companies towards their people & Obama pressure. Bcoz of this factors also we might be affected as Amit singhai rightly mentioned that their economy is in dire state.....what do you say????

Yes it will have an impact on our market . But this is true, that foreign economy is now severely effected than ours. So if they will cover up their losses and stabilize their economy , it surely have a good impact on our industries  who are depending on theirs (specially IT and others). So on the otherside it may be a good sign in future to stabilize the both.

I was very hopeful for the world and for America because if the US economy picks up then it is going to be very good for India but with this news I feel this will have negative effects on us. What do you say ????

Ya Brajesh but the point here that I want to make is that in the current senario its not only the IT sector who is not reciving work its prevalent in all over the market and that why its called "Vicious Cycle of Recession" however my point was simply that US cant ignore the fact that indian work force is much much cheaper for them and stoping the outsoursing will make big holes in there pockets

Even I think Recession-hit US companies will tilt towards increasing IT offshoring work & now Indian software firms should start chasing these deals. President Barack Obama pledged to end tax breaks for companies that send US jobs overseas, but I don't see a strong backlash as companies did not offshore work to avail of tax breaks. I would be very surprised if because of this, there's a reduction of offshoring.

I agree with Neelam and Darpan. US firms are getting a good profit out of the outsourcing work.

I agree with darpan here,

This will just put more pressure on him. Outsourcing is a measure of cost-cutting. If he does this and if American companies hire wannabes, then they have to pay more as salary than outsourced salaries. This will show decrease in their profit and pay less tax. Moreover they can avail tax-cut, this will result in even more less tax. This will ultimately lead to decrease in nation's revenue. This will not help US in anyway to come out of recession. It worses the situation.
