No ego is the key to success. But you should know how to use it in better way. It is the best motivator.... which I believe... Without ego life is boring and you will not have that competing spirit !!!

It has its benefits and disadvantages too. Some amount of ego has to be maintained to keep an individuals self respect intact. But when found to be a hurdle in your progress, it should be shed at once.

But it is better to avoid using ego in personal life because it is bound to come in the way of mental peace and satisfaction whereas in official life a certain amount of ego has to be pouted to ensure your point is made and to gain a bit of self respect. But overuse of the same would prove to be harmful.

MY DEAR AMRITA EGO AND COMPETITION SPIRIT ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. EGO CAN'T BE MIXED WITH SELF RESPECT. SELF RESPECT CAN BE RELATED TO HEALTHY COMPETITION BUT WHEN EGO INTERVENES IT TRANSFORMS COMPETITION INTO A WAR- A WAR OF EXISTENCE THAT ONLY THE POWERFUL SURVIVES.

Yes it the first thing which we have to keep in mind. An egoless person can take decisions which are far reaching and most profitable for him. Though it slso means he keeps his backbone intact.

Obviously, one should avoid "EGO", actually sometime EGO stops people in favoring others, and as Shrikant said EGO make you more ARROGANT.

Yes one should avoid 'EGO" to become successful in life.

Ego is a big barrier in becoming successful. Ego make you more arrogant.

There are different types of EGOS , i.e. wealthy person have EGO of his wealth, healthy person have EGO of his health/physique, beautiful & good looking personality ( female) have EGO for her beauty.

EGO is nothing but state of mind that a person thinks very highly for him/herself & poorly for the others. They really claims much for their self & concedes very little for other.

"EGO" leads to make an individual as self centered & it may be harmful for the growth of an individual or an organization. It is also spoiling your personal relation with your parents/spouse/children/neighbors/relatives.

So everybody, please tell 'EGO" to  E >>>>>>> 'GO".

Self-respect and self-esteem are quite different from Ego one must have self respect and esteem, these are essential for an individual as well as society but Ego has got negative connotations and better to be avoided to succeed in life. Ego harms the person more than anything else.

Ego is necessary but not at the cost of success. Ego should be there but within the acceptable limit by others.A balance has to be maintained between these two.

Ego!!

Definately it is true that one should avoid ego in all matters. If we think on both sides it is partially right...that one should have ego to create step for success, But what i feel personally is It is increase in BP, & forcing mindset to stay at a compulsion level, And not change when time demands a change, many successful people have felt that ego is an hurdle in the path..which doesn't seem to but actually is!!!!!!

No doubt we should drop the ego at higher levels which becomes an impediment for growth and success; but without having an urge and a little ego, one cannot grab the opportunities and achieve success.

egos, self respect and self esteem all compliment each other.if our egos are custodians of our self respect and self esteem then that ego is positive and good to flaunt. but larger than size ego is not only negative but even detrimental to ones growth, both in professional as well as public life.let ego become self esteem and not arrogance.

In life to be competitive and overcome the challenge you must have some ego otherwise you can never understand your competitors well and end up losing on the emotional side. This is brain game and not a heart one and of course you need to control your ego by realizing your roots otherwise everything will go haywire

I am with Amrita. All egos are non necessarily impediments on the road of life. It depends upon the situation. Socrates, Plato and Aristotle all had massive egos (Socrates and his debates with the sophists are arguments on which modern western philosophy is based. In each discourse, Socrates not only defeated the sophist in debate but also subjected him to ridicule). So,to point out something right by dialectic, need not mean that you are an egoist. In contemporary life, success needs a judicious mixture of egotism and unselfishness. This mixture should be applied depending on the circumstances in which one finds himself or herself.

Everyone has ego in himself up to some extent with which he has his appearance in society. it is just as a flower has its smell and salt in food. Although excess of it is bad, it is good and tasty in its limit & it has to be. One can not avoid it and yes Amrita! it helps  us to get charged.

I'm sorry I cannot agree - ego is the biggest hurdle in the way of moving forward as a front/ as a team! It is the single largest problem causing factor due to politicizing of issues & clouds judgement Competitive spirit comes out of working together & ego is the basket of crabs!
