Online ads are all the rage, with Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo all angling for dominance in the online marketing sphere. Everyone is touting online ads as the next big thing. What do you think ?

According to me online ads are ineffective because people ignore them. This is largely due to the active nature of web-browsing. No one really cares about what is shown on websites unless it comes directly on the face with big banner ads. Some say internet is the future, so online advertising is the future. If that holds true than, companies will have to figure out how to do ads correctly before online advertising actually becomes effective.

Internet advertising is still poor today because it copies-pastes the receipe of old adverting on a new interactive media, I agree. It is true that people don't pay much attention to ads on Internet as they don't pay attention to ads on traditional medias.

But the Web has changed the way people consume media, old and new one. We are now entering in the age of "on-demand" and people will not accept any type of interruption in the close future. People are in control and a full range of technologies help them to take the power.

Marketing will need to be rethinked entirely and become so attractive that people will deliberately expose themself to the message. That's the future! We can worry or be enthousiastic but the trend is there and ther will be no return to the 90's.
