Today's news says that Online news and ads surpassed the print version.. This mens people are using more and more of digi media then print version. SO will it actually help in saving paper in long term and inturn less trees will be cut and thus reduction in global warming.

Digi media works n charge.. or say electricity .. production of electricity at powerplants also add to the global warming. The more we use electricity the more we tend to increase global warming. So it is one and the same.

Yes of course and the print industry is still dominating ... yet.

But the numbers each year indicates very strongly that the digital media is up and running, while the conventional one is drowning. Reasons? Rising costs versus no costs, declining interests versus roaring interests, depleting incomes versus healthy profit with less efforts, dependency on many specialized personnel versus one man show

This totally depends where you live in the world.

  • In Europe, digital media are it and the printing industry is going down, deep down.
  • About those who mentioned global warming, don't forget that the biggest source of paper are trees and killing them means big problems, with as global warming is one of the least
  • The areas where I come from (Middle East, Western Europe and the US, people don't like to read anymore, especially the young people (not one book!). Instead they are all in the Internet. They even forget the TV
  • Money. I pay now a very low price for an ad in a local news paper. In the Internet, the lowest rate I get is three times more expensive then the one in the local newspaper, but I reach millions, while the local news paper reaches only a couple of thousand ...

So you see, the printed press and media is on its way out and that is good. Now we have the digital press, news and media, which is exciting, because it is many times more complicated then it was before.

Yes most certainly. Already the plethora of newspapers and the onslaight of the digital media has rendered the daily newspaper useless. With subscriptions and sales falling, most of the newspapers have online versions. Once payment gateways and delivery methods become more secure, then surely the no. of trees cut will come down drastically.

I agree, but still many people prefer reading news on newspapers/articles rather than searching it online...

Definitely "yes" because everyone always gets updated with whatever happening around the globe within moments. It keeps the person well prepared for the situations that may occur in the future. Not only this, it also saves money and time.

Ruchi may not be. Since every thing we use causes global warming hence everything has to be used judiciously. The use of news print in near future will not dip down in India hence we are back to square one.

It may true, Ruchi, but could you please tell us the source from where did you

Because print media is still a strong player for advertising.

No, never. If you will analyse since 2 years, print versin is increasing as well as social-digi also increasing. Last 6 month, divya bhaskar has launched many edition, hindustan times, etc. even though readership is also increasing just last IRS Q4. If you will kerala, west bengol, you will see big consumtion of news paper, magazine etc. Today's media-ad agency are using 360 degree marketing communication. It may be possible that growth of print media is less but consumption and readership wise is high.......

I support Ruchi. Additionally e-waste is also harmful to our environment. Descreasing prices in ele. devices and improvements in technology increases use of ele. devices which in turn increases e-waste on our earth.
