In the marketing world for years the contradiction was between advertising and public relations.  Now this is the time of Internet marketing.  Many people or marketers say that Internet marketing or the inappropriately named online PR is the only tool they need, the only tool they’ll use.

Is the PR is the only way to go, but why?  Why limit yourself to one form on marketing.  The truly smart marketers and business experts develop a strategic, multi--faceted technique.  Internet marketing can spread the word though blogging, social networking and effective SEO

Effective PR more than ever is the most legitimizing and validating form of marketing.  Through it you become the news; you are the story.  Your online marketing can help develop media stories and your media coverage can direct viewers, readers and listeners to your websites, blogs, landing pages, social network sites, etc.  Think of the true marketing juggernaut you can create if you strategically combined the two.

And personally I consider PR as a part of online marketing strategy.

Online PR has displaced online marketing. In literary sense they both stand out in their own benefits. But Online PR is something that gives boost even to online marketing.

From my point of view I would prefer online PR. The best example is of blog creation. People will prefer reading a blog as they would pay their attention as to what one has to say regarding a particular subject.

Marketing whether online or traditional has never been only about forging relations. Online marketing involves a gamut of things beginning from social media networking, seo, PR, email marketing, blogging etc. When you talk about Online PR you are talking one part of online marketing which is done through social media sites.

True.PR is an extension of marketing and is not a strategy in isolation. Online or otherwise PR has to contribute to revenue generation at the end of the day. Online PR should ideally be a part of your overall online marketing strategy.

Wisdom says you need a bucket and a rope (online marketing) to draw water from the well, the pulley (online PR) just makes your work easier, but you can always do without the pulley but not the bucket.

That is why i favor internet marketing. Online PR is just a tool under the larger umbrella of online marketing.

In Internet marketing the message is designed to drive sales or directly increase revenue in some way. For example, the marketing message of a large online holiday package dealer might be that they can offer the largest selection and cheapest prices because of their good network

In online PR the message isn’t designed to be directly promotional. PR messages can vary from showing that a company cares about a specific cause to news messages put out by the company. Its generic in nature.

yes creating a blog is the most simple / easy thing to do,  is that the end or start ??

Currently there are some hundreds n thousands of bogs but who & how many read it ? is the out come fullfilled by just creating it. how long does one update it and use it to connect with TG.

most of them use blog as a shortcut for cos who dont what to create a website or dont have guts to face the users using their own websites - cos blog is just a app enabling 2 way communication open to public.

Overall as marketing person I dont think its a choose between marketing or PR. A true mktg person will have both, in different % .. depending on what the objective / problem is.

I dont think so, that Google will be able to dominate other business formats than search, though they are on a acquiring spree it will be difficult for them to come out with new product time and again, it would do good if  they improve their search...
