Online shopping for a country like India is the proof of revolution in the field of IT in this country. It is not less than a gift of IT o those who don`t have much time and they can`t waste their precious hours in the market and prefer to spend those hours with their friends, relatives and family.

Online shopping is an excellent method which integrates technology with common man. Every person in India go out to buy purchase items. Online shopping gives you the facility to purchase the same item sitting at home at a lower price, still people have not made the best use of this technology yet. In India people like to see and the product before buying, that gives them more faith on that product. That is the major reason why online shopping has not been a great success in India so far. Whereas in countries like US and UK, people are broadminded and they very well make use of the e-commerce technology. They know that they can get the same item found in market for much cheaper price if they buy it online. Also get the product delivered at their home, thereby saving the time of travel and utilizing it for several other purposes. In India, people have to be made aware of the advantages of using e-commerce technology. And the best part is that you cannot find any disadvantages of this technology if you shop online from a reliable portal like E-Bay, Nichesuite, Amazon etc. Regards, Anna George. Yes, online shopping is still not so popular in India. Most of the consumers are still stick on the traditional shopping.Because marketers make their sites so typical which is not understand by a normal person..Marketers need to understand the behavior of the Indian consumers and act accordingly.

India has a formatted retailing concept. People like to go to malls or shop around. The online shopping will not work unless the product is exotic or not available off-the-shelf. So you can see that while tickets - airline / railway and buses, are availed online, product purchases are made physically.

The online market is already very good , and people who don't make use of it are , should I say , not well-informed. I will take only one example of books. Most of us buy at least a few books in a year , either fiction or non-fiction or both. When you buy books from physical stores like Landmark or Crossword or any other reputed book-seller , the maximum discount you can expect , if any , is 5 %. During any sale , you may get higher discounts , but these come only once or twice a year. Compare this with online bookstores - you have a variety of more than a dozen online bookstores - bookadda , flipkart , coinjoos , indiaplaza , infibeam ,.. the list goes on and on. All of them offer discounts ranging from 25 % to 75 % ! Not only that , the web offers you a means of comparing prices across bookstores - there are two websites www.indiabookstore.net , isbn.net.in These will tell you the online bookstore which gives you the cheapest rates for any book - you can search by book title , author or ISBN. My experience with these websites has been wonderful ; books are delivered as ordered , in time , and in brand-new condition. I will never again shop for books , by going to a physical store. The same applies to every other item you may need - there are online shops for everything , from rakhis to textiles to vegetables !

When the online market is evolving its demerits will vanish. When it is established we can have a foolproof system. In India it should be regulated by a Government agent.

With the increase of internet usage the on line market will not only evolve but will grow very rapidly. If I may say we have a nature to copy others and if some body has one internet connection I should also have it and some body is buying through then why cant I buy? This mentality will grow leaps and bound in times to come.

According to my view Because of our state administration system  so many malpractices are happening, specially during the  product  purchases need some tangibility, here again seeing in own eyes with the tangible touch  the psychological satisfaction will give more effect.also this will counts a lot, specially for shopping goods and Electronics base products , Â

Basically it has to do with individual choices. Given the indian penchant for bargaining and feeling the products themselves or going through a plethora of choices, online shopping will naver take of as it has in the west. In the west people are more lazy and hardly bother about value for money deals or for looking at products themselves, hence it is a success there. Also prices are a big issue in india, i have seen many online marketers charging very high prices or not backing up with proper after sales service. When confronted with bad quality, they are not willing to take back the goods. Online marketing involves a lot of honesty with your customer and unless this is practised by our business houses, it will not take of in a big way.

It seems honesty is not our cup of tea in business dealings. As Mr. Pi is pointed out, there is no guarantee that you will get the product what you opted for. Easy money is our concept.

I would certainly like to go to the market. Why would I want to buy something Online. The factor of tangibility is missing when I want to purchase something online. Let us say a person X bought a new copy of a novel on some www.xxbx.com. What are the chances that the book will be in good condition when Mr. X receives it. I have a friend of mine who recently bought a brand new iphone 4 on the internet. When the parcel reached him, he only found the charger and the mobile phone cover inside the box while the phone is missing. We can not blame Iphone for this. They maintain excellent product quality. In fact it hardly matters whom we blame. The web site agreed to ship another phone for him but the damage is done.. the shipment is lost, delayed... Is it a good experience? I am sure a lot of us would have tried to buy something or the other on line.. and I wonder how many from that big bunch have had good or awesome experiences of online shopping. I am not suggesting that we must totally avoid shopping on line.. But, I definitely wonder why we can not go visit the nearest mall to buy something. Thank you, Krishna Dutta

Outside India, online shopping is normal. In India many people are reluctant to buy online because of credit card fraud. Another reason is what MS_Pi is talking about. One person I know had his entire account balance wiped out because somebody was able to steal his card while he made an online purchase. Another person who bought some stuff online was not only cheated with a duplicate item but somebody used his card to withdraw 10,000 rupees. So, as long as online theft of credit card and debit card is taken seriously by law enforcement agencies in India, it is good to buy from the market.

My friend ordered for a "Branded' watch online. What he received is an cheap, duplicate watch. Best way is to go the market, feel it and buy it. Thanks for the referral Purvi.

my experience is not very good on 'on line shopping" you can not check the quality and other physical features and also trials. also it is a time consuming exercise.
