Today's businesses are largely managed to minimize  risk and often suffer from a "not-invented" here mentality that rejects outsiders' ideas .However, companies are beginning to realize that many talented and entrepreneurial people are hidden among their consumers.

Well Mr.Jayanta Kumar, I will accept with you up to some extent and it is correct also. But beyond certain level the organizations with good R & D cell will hesitate to reveal certain important research points which will be reserved for them.

This is a really good debate Jayanta..

Why will company take external help ?

There can be ideas, but why will some one give it out to a company where he does not work?

Why will someone else think about your growth..

There are many such questions which arise before we try to implement such ideas...

The company never rejects outsider ideas completely. They reject only if they have better idea from their own or some other outsider. Thanks for your referral Ms.Mahalakshmi

I think this just means working with the consumer regarding the development of a product. Not that they make the consumers design rather they let them answer some questions regarding the product, after correcting for errors in reporting and translation of data they come to a conclusion what is the perceived products value that will be succesful in the market and they go ahead and design or re-tool the product.

The very real challenges and barriers to the adoption of a more open approach to design and innovation should not hide the emergence of a set of tools and techniques that are showing how these tactics can create new and better value.

Though i posted this debate ,but with limited knowledge of my own ...so that we can learn better from our experts.Lets see what our experts have to say and thus learn better.

Suggestion for improvement box, Employees Improvement ideate program on monthly basis, Feed-back system, Paid for survey collection, etc are the few program works at corporate level to borrow their ideas to improve. But, it remains unresolved what benefit the suggestion-supplier get out of it. In corporate level, they, even, went to the extent of offering them incentives & appreciation letter. But, it remains hard to be achieved.

Organization can be transparent in dealings but in design they reserve the proprietorship through patent ownership .

Thanks for referral Ms Mahalaxmi.

To-day scenario  in any big organization R & D functions as a different SBU and even some time their own employees are rationed. When it comes suggestions either from the own sources or from outside they will honor it by saying that we did lot of configuration  changes

I've witnessed this method adopted by EPSON (A Japanese organisation, specialized in 80s and 90s in Dot Matrix Printers). I was one of the valuable customers in those years. They took feedback and suggestions for improvement - they not only recorded my statement on video, but also studied the texture of running stationery used in terms of their quality, thickness, moisture content, and the precision of punches, so that they could enhance the existing models to specifically suit Indian condition. They did come out with an improved version later on addressing many of our Indian users' concern. This model will certainly work if they approach it with "open mind"! Thanks for referral Ms. Mahalakshmi. Wonderful debate, this!

Thanks Mahalkshmi for the referral. Assume for a moment that an outsider or employee gave some ideas. Company's management and later R&D will take it and try it. If it works, no credit will be given to the person who gave the idea.
