Today we are seeing Social Networking in most of the things, and we are also seeing how it is influencing things around us. To know more, Just go through this - There are no big names, no corporate involvement or funding, yet there is tremendous financial support from 22 cities in 17 countries for a series of five short films. Unusual, but entirely possible thanks to social networking websites like Facebook and others.

Film director Onir created a group on Facebook to get support for the "I am" film series to spread social awareness through the visual medium and was overwhelmed to see the response from people on social networking site. They've already got 25% of funds and are hoping to get another 25% from social media and the remaining 50% would be will be  put in by themselves said the Director, and for that matter even the music director for the film also came through Facebook.

What do you think people will this Out-of-the-box idea of Film making will work? or is just a one time wonder?

I think Social networking is doing some tremendous things, we are seeing a fast paced growth with whatever one is associating with Social media, and the main pulse here are the common man who share similar interests with his groups and these similar minded people are driving things, as they are having a platform called Social networking to drive such things which they couldn't have done earlier, now with Social networking people are into many things and the best example of producing a movie through a group of like minded people from all over the world, this is a new way of funding happening that we are seeing for movies...So i think this kind of association with people will do lot more good even in future as well and even Mainstream cinema can take something out of this..

Agreed that to a certain extent social networking sites do help in promotions, marketing, advertising and yet how many people actually use a social networking site....in India alone how many people have access to a computer system let alone the knowledge that such sites exist. True it might revolutionise the medium of communication but that's a far future...Also revolution is a term which is all about numbers while one or two happenings is usually referred to as casual occurence...Advertising or marketing through these sites has a limited reach and for some products that might not be the target audence...I personally think social networking sites have a long way to go before being termed as a "revolution" or "replacement" for other mediums of communication.

Its true that the PC penentration in our country is still around 8% and the usage of internet is still a niche activity yet it has the potential to become the biggest consumer market in coming times. Social networking is one aspect of this developement. The biggest reason for this growth is the freedom to express oneself. Earlier Film Making was only restricted to few learned men from FTII and veterans of traditional film making industry. Further exhibition of such films was virtually impossible due to costs. Now not only technolgy for creating the movies have slashed drastically...thanks to all techno innovations lke handy cams...the platform to present one's movies has gone from null to the world !!! Its indeed drastic shift and probably the audience is becomnig open to new concepts and ideas unlike the past where mediocrity in storyline ruled the roost.

Social networking is catching on and many organizations / people have already benefited from it.  I don't feel this is a one time idea.  If this catches on, you may even see the starcast, crew, technical team and the rest being selected through this media.

We can look at this as an opportunity of innovative marketing.

Something like that should happen again, unless the possibilities of creating a new media revolution is not possible. Now in this industry, things are going n a routine way

It really depends on the subject that the film is being made on. It cannot be a regular dubbed practice to get FUNDINGS from Social Platforms.

In fact my idea would be to get the most BURNING issues from these platforms for films today. These would be good feeds as they would pertain to social issues and would really represent what the masses think and would like to see happen as solutions!! It would a very REALISTIC Cinema. Fundings according to me would be a real "I GOT LUCKY' kind of factor. I say this also because the most important thing for a film is to se the LIGHT OF THE DAY!! It has to be released. You cannot post yourself on such platforms again and say that NOW that YOU have funded me, Fund my release as well!! I agree to the innovation but I do not agree as this being the medium for raising funds for film making!!

Good debate!

I believe that when a bill is rejected so many times there has to be loopholes in the bill too and we can clearly see them. The main problem is that we are too emotional that we are not able to find the realistic approach to the matter.
