Already, there are some successful BC pilots which has been hailed by RBI as successful role models. These models do provide the heitherto 'Unbanked' section an opportunity to integrate with formal banking sector. The PCOs and Kiranas are the recommendations of the working committee and it will surely make these innovations more robust and scalable.

This system will certainly provide the much needed "inclusion of poor in banking system". What we must not forget is that every big revolution starts from small things & this for sure could prove to be one such small initiative. We all should support such initiatives instead of objecting to them. Atleast let something start at first. Any new system has its merits & demerits & needs time to become a perfect system. We should also not forget that we are talking about banking for poor & this is very well done by many Microfinance Institutes in our country today without the tantrums. We should understand that their needs are small, deposits are small, investments will be small & all this can be taken care of by such models. Ofcourse I do not deny that they do not deserve good facilities but as the old adage goes " Something is better than nothing". Lets start today & deliver that something now, then maybe later we may think of giving better facilities & it certainly will come. I am hopeful. Imagine what the network will be once such a model is deployed. Who knows tomorrow it may become the model for Towns as well. We just need to broaden our thoughts. Ofcourse such facilities may not be full service facilities but I am still using MAY not be.....

Its not dat tough too. If we actually look many activities are being performed at retail level unofficially, such as Shop keepers are giving cash against false purchase bill. Financial Inclusion is not only reason behind this Kirana store banking modle, I think this will also help in tapping fake monetary transaction, Indigeneous banking.

I think considering the 'inclusive' nature of growth expected this is a possibility. The check amounts can have limits like say 200 rupees or so. Even it is possible for someone to open an account in these places and person handling the transaction can remit the amount in the Bank at the end of the day or week. I think it is for poor people to get a feei for the Banks.

RBI is not able to have a ful control over APEX banks and co-operative banks . MOdern banks are vulnerable to increased amount of frauds with the passage of each day ....under this circumstance ,I have my own doubts ,as whether this is to popularise Banking habit or crearing aversion and fear towards banking system . Howver we all need to wait and watch ,as what model is implemented...I HAVE STRONG DOIBTS ABOUT ITS SUCCESS

no the best thing and is to pay the income tax and all types of taxes honestly and with this amount govt should help the poor. everybody who has kept foot on the earth like to earn and work, the poor should be given work and create resource which will make them stand as well as will make the country more powerfull. above all interest free banking should be started in india which would be helpfull for the poor people. NO PCO OR KIRANA START WITH PETROL PUMPS FIRST

I agreed with your views to overcome the poverty problems in indian economy. But I have an idea that poverty problem can be solved by enhancing the purhcasding power of poor peoples of indian economy thru increasing the regular income of the members of family so that their regular bedget of expenditure cound upgrade for their sustainble economic growth not in monatry form but also upgradation of thier social standard of livning thur higher and technical education .

Many new verticals were added to the service portfolio of banks recently and the working of banks are becoming complex day by day. Yes agree with what Swati madam and joshi sir said, can act as extension or function specific and to some extent like atms did they may benefit banking operations . Like mathew sir said it can be an option for rural areas, where small denominations are involved and panchayats etc perform some banking functions like thrift, small loans etc. Still there is no clarity regarding the structure, let us see how the whole thing unveils. Actually this is new information for me, thanks for updating Swati madam.

Swatiji and Joshiji are right. This may be used as collecting bills and cheques. Not only Banking needs lot of expertise and experience they need to have a fair good hand in share market and smart brains to invest which I don't think the kirana shops still possess. Also, since there is no clear picture of the whole process, a question marks also comes on the security of the money.

Banking needs expertise and infrastructure for money transactions. As Swatiji says, it can be a cheque collection center for bill s like telephone bill, water bill, electricity bill etc.
