feeling friendly in people management is not that u go personal with them its just that friendly behaviour develops a comfortable zone for people who are giving inputs in the organisation and if they are investing then they feel secure that they are at the right place and are not being duped

if one is friendly will provide room for the people to approach you with their problems, views, etc. this will help one to understand the people and their problems which in turn will help in having a better working atmosphere. But one should know where to draw the line and should have a control as to how much freedom can be given

Agreeing with Ajay Stalin on this albeit a clue is to walk through individual strengths and be aware of human weaknesses and instincts and overlook some misdemeanors to some extent. Being over friendly will not help but offering co-operation when needed would serve good purpose.

Dekho poojaa. Keeping distance is no doubt is very good technique. But, to know people and ultimately manage them is more than this.  Many other managerial skills, laced with insight and experience , are a MUST to manage MEN and MATTERS.

i also feel that there can be no laid down policy. people are people and not machines. relationships are dynamic. one needs one tool or method now, and something else another time. common sense and social intelligence come into play all the time.

If it is just a relationship feeling friendly is acceptable but when it comes to people management we should keep distance to know them and to evaluate in a better way....
