Because people is the one who creates the process. This process differs from one organisation to other, beacuse the process is not an constant thing to maintain the project or any organisation..we change the process based on our needs...and the whole process is made up of common sense....

Processes are enablers of good intentions The definitions are people driven and the executions are. Its the values of the organization the determines how effective and beneficial the processes would be for the Business & the People of the organization. The Value is Leadership driven and People acceptance. Values, Focus & Awareness - that determines success - are all people driven. Processes are just the enabler to keep them in track.

Mihir,you missed my point ....Better hamburger from Mac is a proof that process could only optimize delivery...it is just limited to that...A controlled environment limited by processes will automatically mean that the amount of risk that you can take is minimized..hence adventures/mis-adventures are restricted. And unless you think out of BOX you continue to better what you do..not do things differently. Watch the latest IBM advt on the Tele.....seems the world's biggest IT company thinks my way

There is no doubt that both people and process are equally important. But the debate is >> Who is responsible for a faliure? As Bandi has rightly brought out that the process is the end result of the work of many brains. Thus it is tested and is fool proof. So if faliure takes place it is only because of the people who have to implement and apply it correctly. Thus the importance of the people element is supreme .. as rightly said by Jai Prakash

Process are not delivered without people innovating or optimizing an idea. To a certain extent processes kill innovation and hence limit an enterprise's ability to excel. You cannot have a method to innovate but yes you can have a method to operate. So if the question is success of operations, rely on processes, but if it is the next big idea you are in pursuit of, bank it on people.

No doubt the System (Process) works. But it is people who make the process to work. No system or process can be workable unless the People behind the process are dedicated and honest to process to which they belong. I feel the brain behind the Process, i.e., the People is the supreme.

- It has to be people. Where is the doubt ??
- Ultimately it is the people who develop various process.
- The development and the implementation of the process is constrained by the quality of the people who develop it .
- So if a project fails it is the people behind who have failed .

Focus has to be on people because they develop project with the help
of a process. I fail to understand why is it people are so focused on practises and move away from people.The lack of focus on the most important participant in creation is often baffling . Well only if the people put emphasis
on people and not on dumb process, the project archives peak heights.

Correct process lead to quality product, if process is wrong quality product can not be made. Human makes error. Errors lead to defects so if the process is not fit enough to find out errors then, it won't give quality product. Process is important and which can find out errors.(Zero defect or poka-yoke should remain our aim)

People is totally immaterial if the process is right. A good process makes a project less risky and not dependent on people. It is true that people execute a project but over dependency on people will put your project at risk. That is why process model like CMMi and Six Sigma are of so much important.

Process = Route Map
People = Drivers
Objective or Goal = Target Destination
Both People & Processes are required to attain the SET GOAL / OBJECTIVE of the Organization
But read on...!!!
Bad Driver + Wrong Route Map = No Where ! (Objective not met)
Good Driver + Wrong Route Map = New Destination (Objective not met)
Bad Driver + Correct Route Map = Towards Target Destination (Objective Partially met)
Good Driver + Correct Route Map = Target Destination (Objective met)
keeping above scenarios into consideration i support that by following GOOD Processes in place you can be atleast half assured of reaching the Set Objective / Goal...!!!

I believe that best process - reduces the risk of failure - Reduces rework (reduces rework cost) - you get robust product and reduces employee fatigue - leads to innovation. Even if person is strong in knowledge and process is not in place, you can't guaranty of 100% success.

Although Process is being derived by People Brains. Once derived, Process eliminates People Dependency - Process Implementation means methodical approach which implies CHEAPER ie, "MORE FOR LESS" , MORE PRODUCTIVITY, INCREASED ROI, CONSISTENT OUTPUT. The argument is not on the "ATTITUDE". Positive Attitude is definitely required for Defining Processes and Following It. Process is the knowledge gained out of various Practical experiences & analysis put on as a "Check List" / Theory which Prevents "RE INVENTING WHEEL ", LAST MINUTE RUSHING & CHAOS People read these theories ie, Processes and apply it in their day today life. If they encounter newer things , they update the theories. EXAMPLE : CROSBY ZERO DEFECTS THEORY , KAIZENS CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT, DEMINGS PLAN DO CHECK ACT CYCLE, DR GOLDRAT THEORY OF CONSTRAINTS , PMBOK (PROJECT MANAGEMENT BODY OF KNOWLEDGE) PORTERS FORCE ANALYSIS Having a process in place, makes People's life simpler and easier. Flow is some thing like this PROCESS/THEORY DERIVED BY PEOPLE --- USED BY PEOPLE -- PEOPLE ENCOUNTER NEW IDEAS -- UPDATE PROCESS/THEORY 1.PEOPLE DEFINE PROCESS/THEORY BY DOCUMENTING THE STEP BY STEP APPROACH AS A SOLUTION FOR PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AS A PART OF THEIR EXPERIENCES 2.THIS PROCESS/THEORY ARE USED BY PEOPLE FOR ENSURING METHODICAL APPROACH 3. PEOPLE ENCOUNTER NEW PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS , THEY ARE UPDATED IN THEORY/PROCESSES

Ritesh, how can you say process kills innovation in fact a predictable, repeatable process has been the cornerstone of
innovation and quality for many successful industries. Did you ever
wonder why a hamburger and french-fries at McDonalds taste the same no
matter where in the world you purchase it? It’s all about process.

Process is the end result of the work of many brains and its in place only after it stands the test of time, scalability, deviations etc etc. Once the process is in place it is supreme and transcends everybody. Process alone can give stability, consistency, uniformity and reliability. People are very dynamic. They change and deviate to suit their requirments which will not in the best interest of a process driven organisation.

Processes help organisations overcome problems created by individuals. People will always have ego issues and will try to prove thier superiority over others. Processes are above individuals and always make things less complicated

Talk about scalability Prakash, Process is a fundamental tool for carrying out community consensus, and
for allowing a very large number of people to work together on a
collaborative project. Process is also the mechanism by which users can
trust that others are playing fair and are dedicated towards their job. Poor process or no process ultimately harms the product, so it is very vital.
