Children are minors no doubt, but they do have needs! Who knew, 20 years ago that we would become such a digitized world? Online purchasing is no longer a luxury limited for the wealthy. Likewise, safety is enhanced by eliminating the need to carry wads of cash for payment. In addition, there is a limit that can be set for teh spending capacity of each card (hence each child) & thus a debit card is for the best!

Great idea to have debit cards for children. This has two fold advantage, firstly, gives opportunity for children in understanding finance and its management. Secondly, improves customer base of the banks to look and attract next generation customers and address their needs. Additionally, allows banks to build the database of customer on spending pattern and behaviour.

Today’s kids start demanding financial independence much earlier. It is up to you to decide how much independence they should be warranted and how you wish to control their spending. Some banks offer debit cards to kids putting a monthly limit on the spending which is controled by parents. The advantage of debit cards is that they help in making children financially independent. Apart from this, grown up children begin to appreciate the value of money early in life, thus laying the foundation for their future money management skills. The debit card on one hand enable parents in exercising control over the amount of money that is at their kid’s disposal, on the other they give liberty to kids to spend as and when they wish to.

Absolutely no ! Do you wanna start the habit of being a spendthrift at a young age itself ? Not to mention the illegal things within their reach with such a card. Dont even think of it ! It will also make them intolerant towards their fellow brethren who dont have such cards.

No the kids don't need a credit card. Not that they won't learn using money if they use credit cards, but they won't know their limits for sure. Whatever the credit card limit may be but still its a "credit" card. A kid can use it without giving any thoughts. This will do nothing good than spoiling the kids. Parents can spend quality time with kids while shopping. Handing them cards will lead to more freedom and les attention.

In my opinion Kids really don't needs such products. When kids handling the rupees they naturally learn the calculations. Banks only generating this demand by offering them discount on toys and books.
