I believe luck plays a very vital role and if something is in your destiny u definitly will get,. but if it is not in your destiny then despite of hard work u will not be able to achieve it. However, it is also true that through hard work, sincerely, devotion once can change  its destiny.

Frankly agree with all those who say luck does play its part. So does hard-work. But I think it is the attitude. A positive attitude can help even bad work come across as a timely correction course.

Without luck, mere hard work cannot develop a person's career. Alternately, mere luck without availing the opportunity provided by luck and working on that can also not help making a man reach to the top. Of course, where luck exists, no hard work is required, but generally taking the cue from the luck even routinely working can help. For example, Ambani Brothers were lucky enough to take birth in the family of Dhirubhai Ambani and continued to work routinely on the empire of Reliance Group of Industries, as established by their father. They continued to toe the line already set for them by their father.

Contrarily labourers of building construction industry, by sweating all the day in scorching heat of summer, chilling winds of winter and unable to get construction job in rainy reason, although work hard, but always remain hand to mouth till the end of their life. The result, only lucky family reside in their constructed house to enjoy the fruits of construction made by the construction labour.

Even if we see the example of Reliance Group of Industries, the Ambani Brothers are enjoying crores of their salary, allowances per month basis only by virtue of their luck but on account of hard work put by the huge number of their employees. None of their employees had reached at top of the Reliance Group of Industries.

Its a combination of both with a tilt towards luck. You may work like a dog but without luck you wont be recognised for the same and your supervisor may rob you of all your credits. One requires a bit of both to succeed.

Yes Luck some times plays an important role. However the satisfaction you get when you achieve some thing through hard work is the most enjoyable and makes you happy. Hard work means what? Is it dedication to your work and meet the objective and work for the success of your organization or country and at the same time grab the power positions? or Is it work hard to reach the top by hook or crook? There are examples where people reached success and top merely by working for it throwing all the ethics to the wind. You can see examples in India in today's Politics. Your own friends and classmates who have struggled to pass in schools would have become chair persons of the organizations where you still work as a middle manager, work hard to reach the top one day. You will now have to salute your less intelligent school day friend, whom you might have helped to just pass. What do you call it. Hard working to reach the top some times means throwing all the ethics to the wind to reach the top.

You ask Successful people, and probably most of them give at least part of the credit to Blessings from god and elders and part to fate and destiny. It is because we have seen not all hard working people have reached top positions/ While I also do not believe in fate, destiny, god, blessings and believe only in hard work and reached the top in my organization overtaking  some of my own classmates and seniors and even people educated overseas, I have to accept the fact that working hard just in your organization and reaching the top there when your own organization is collapsing in front of you is not an achievement. In every field and organization, you will find people dragging in all directions for their own benefit resulting in destroying the organization.

Hard work need to be defined first. Hard work towards reaching the top in your organization or in your profession or towards global recognition or for getting the self satisfaction of achieving in life simultaneously taking your colleagues to the same level. Ask the question Has Dr. APJ reached the top and successful? or Narayana Murthy or his successor or Azeem Premjee or Ambanies or    Dr Manmohan Singh or Yeddiyurappa?

If Luck refers to the ABILITY of a person to see the opportunities in life to go ahead, then I would go with Luck.

Luck never happens without hard work.

But working hard without seeing the opportunities that life presents you, then the person will never make it to the top.

This debate should have been more specific. Not all hard working inteligent perons may not be luckky to reach the top of an organization. It depends upon the organzation - Family owned and managed, Family owned but professionally managed or professionally managed. There are several instances of back door entries to reach top quickly. Just hard work is not sufficient to reach the top one should know how to cash in on hard work and many times little bit of luck also may play a role. All persons, who work hard and sincere and leave it to the king makers to recognoise their hard work and reward may not get the required reward. There is nothing wrong if one projects himself, shows off in addition to hard work to acheive his aim to reach the top. After all how every one working hard can reach the top since there is only one top position.

Padmanabhan What you have stated is correct but I have given a little bit of more importance to Luck since assume there are 3 aspirants for the next level and all of them more or less fit the bill here there is a man called "Godfather" who exists in every corporate has the major role to play by saying who should be promoted that is luck, I am talking about.

The more deserving one do not have a "Godfather".

Often people use to say that Mr. X has achieved success because of luck. Many people are there who are better than him. But I strongly condemn such views. My cousin Aamir Hashmi used to be the captain of Ranchi Cricket team and M S Dhoni used to be the wicket keeper of that team. now M S is leading the national team and Aamir bhai is still playing for the same team. Some people say that he don`t get a chance because he is a Muslim, but we should think about it because Indian team has players from different castes communities including Islam. So for doing something great you are expected to do hard work. As far as M S is concerned he is the most successful Indian captain. What he achieved or anyone achieves is because of his qualities and hard work and not merely by luck.

According to my view, if anyone does a hard work, it means he is with the job,and day to day he is in a learning process, specially for us when we are working in the field every day we are facing different types of problems with the different type of people. It's a good exposure for us,but with out doing the hard work you can't able to take a right decision,If not, we always listen and go through the related story and data base.In that case if we would have taken the wrong decision, with that wrong decision the company sales and image sometimes come down drastically, then this will be a pothole to the particular person. But with his hard work he could take the right decision without any hesitation. It will help him to go to the top. Therefore hard working is the only way to clime the ladder.

Luck is an indefinite blessing but hard work is a permanent blessing. You will get continuous results for hard work. I believe hard work is the foundation for even luck. There is no luck without hard work, but viceversa is possible. One who believes in luck will spoil his life waiting for opportunities. A hardworker always grabs the opportunities and makes his own space of success. Regards, Shruth & Smith Foundation. Banshankari, Bangalore. http://www.shruthandsmithfoundation.org/

I strongly agree with the argument that it is one's hard work that helps him reach his target.if you depend only on luck for all your accomplishments, you are taking a great risk. Luck is something intangible and no one can guarantee that it would ever come your way. If it doesn't work, it would be a great disappointment. Instead if you strive hard to achieve what you want, then your hard work would take you at least closer to your final goal.success is what we have after a process we worked hard or we made an effort to achieve it. In other words, those who believe in hard work are clear about their goals and know about their final destination. They carefully organize the process of achieving their targets and continue to evaluate their progress until they reach the final goal. If you believe in luck, you would be clueless about where you are heading. When someone didn’t have success or they didn’t achieve the result that they desire, they always thought that because they were luckless or they had a lot of bad luck. In my point of view, I think that it’s only the way we lie ourselves and we don’t want to face the facts or the true reason.Lucky only give you a chance. However, if you don’t concentrate on your goal enough, then you can’t use that chance to have success or may be that’s only a fake success. A real success is what you have by your own ability.
