Indian oil marketing companies will raise the price of petrol by Rs.5 per litre, the steepest hike of 8 percent, from Saturday midnight. In June last year, the government had allowed oil companies to set the price of petrol as per the market situation, following which they had raised the price of petrol by Rs.3 per litre. Then another substantial price rise took place in December 2010, when companies had hiked the price by Rs.3 per litre. The last time price hike was in January, when oil companies had raised the price by four to two percent. However, They are saying that they are still losing about Rs.8 per litre of petrol. That means They wont gonna stop this. Expect more with a Cycle.

It has become the most easiest way of revenue generation, the nexus between oil cos and the government is really alarming. They should keep it to the maximum level so that they should not face loss but who is bothered about our pocket. You will see some really good excuses and justification in the daily newspapers and electronic media about the helplessness of government and Oil cos. Slowly but this way we are again going towards the era of cycle and bullockcarts, and people using the same would get discounts, promotions in job and special attention, it may happen India is a great country

In the biggest-ever price increase of the fuel, state-owned oil companies hiked petrol price by Rs. 5 per litre with effect from Saturday midnight. The steep hike in petrol price is likely to be followed by a Rs. 4 per litre increase in diesel rates and Rs. 20-25 per cylinder increase in domestic LPG price later this month.

Find strange everytime the prices of petrol is increased, no reduction in taxes are done by the state and central Govt. They are only interested in filling their coffers more and more.... strange

After the Government removed control on petrol price the price has gone up very high. One way to reduce the price is to reduce taxes like customs duty and excise duty. To reduce use of petrol we need a good and well organised public transport system, which is lacking.

Why doubt the day light robbers. Way laiders are far better than these blood suckers. All their inefficiency and greed is put on the monopoly market. It is for the world to come out of this and start adopting alternative mode of power like electric cars and two wheelers. An electric two wheeler needs just <Rs50/month and <Rs500/month for car. It is for the smart people to switch than cribbing behind the greedy looters.

This kind of price raise is truly unprecedented. This will have cascading effect on other commodities, hike in auto, taxi and public transport fares. Great Economist in the helm of affairs taking true care of American economy, and not Indian economy!

Well good for the ecology and the terrific traffic jam problem as well as beneficial for the future generation because if the petrol is purchased less that means the petrol is saved. Moreover there will be less pollution which will ensure more fresh air. If people will use cycle then this will benefit their health factor too. Think Positive.
