The biggest problem of the Indian construction industry is the totally unplanned growth. Our markets are driven by booms & slowdowns. This is because we do not plan and/or assess the future growth. It was obvious, when the IT industry started growing the Government & the industry leaders should have anticipated the excess cashflow in the markets, which would ultimately go into ageold investment of Realty. However, our Government and/or Industry leaders did not sit together to understand effects of growth in IT industry.

Yes. Oe course improper planning will lead to erroneous result of the project. The planning should be realistic one based on the past experiences of similar nature projects and must be done by an experienced person of the concerned field.Here in India plans are made only on the paper by the politicians who are in the Govt.without considering the realistic facts and figures, that's why they tend to fail.

Planning is done with resources only. You cannot plan without manpower and machineries.

Planning alone can resolve all the problems of skill shortage in construction industry.

A simple example of lack of planning is Commonwealth Games, New Delhi, our infrstructure has not been completed as yet. Where as for the FIFA World Cup 2010, which started on June 11, 2010 the infrastructure was planned for July 2009 and it was completed in time. The investments made by South African Government were huge, much more than commonwealth games. They had planned everything including human resources. They have training institutes run by the respective trade/technical associations, where they train the craftsmen apart from supervisors and engineers. They have mechanized the many activities of the industry to deliver on time.

On the other hand, we wait for shortages so that few handfulls can feel their pockets exorbitantly.

Planning is nothing to do with skill shortage in construction industry, as skill is required only after proper planning or a proper plan of implementation.

A project is to be executed by manpower only. Backlog in progress generates due to non-deployment of the required manpower. The reason- manpower crisis. The catch-up plans even fail to deliver at the end. The best way is to keep a correct time period of completion in the contract keeping such issues in the mind. Clients think that it is the Contractor who should solve such problems, but practically it is not possible.

Growth is unplanned not because of poor planning but because of poor implementation of the plans. We prefer 'politically correct' over 'technically correct' when the plan starts getting translated to ground.

Hence the buzz line shall be 'sticking to the plan'.
