Yes Mr. khirod what you are trying to make out true indeed...there is a serious gap of Rich and Poor in the world...its like rich people are having everything and know people who can help them out at any point..but in the case of poor people they are not having money and even government is also not helping them to come up...so people should give some serious thought about this problem...

Due to lack of literacy and motivation poor people can not earn. Its not the money which make the people rich or poor. Its just their thoughts and urge to work hard.If one goes with the autobiography or life history of many high profile people we find all were poor or somehow in trouble re monetory situation. So,poor people if they change their views ,struggle hard to stabilise their life no one can hinder them to do so.

If i have understood right, the middle class in accounts for 53% of the population, compared with 34% for the lower class and 13% for the upper class. Some 59% of the urban population belongs to the middle class, compared with 45% in rural areas.

"The cost of living has increased so much over the past ten years that the middle class has been crushed, and many of them have started to disappear,"  "A few years ago, someone earning 10,000 INR could provide their family with a decent standard of living; that is no longer the case today."

"Teachers, for example, belonged to the middle class in the 1980s. A primary school teacher would earn enough on their own to cover family expenditures and live comfortably,". "Over the past few years, things have changed. You can no longer say that teachers belong to the middle class."

The definition of the middle class used for India draws just as much on social self-classification by heads of household as it does on the objective criteria of income and living standards by cultural factors: the dominant culture is based around the idea of a happy medium, which means that both rich and poor like to identify themselves as middle class.

"So among the richest 20% of the population, 75% consider themselves to be middle class; meanwhile the figure is 37% for the poorest 20% of the population."

By virtue of upbringing, are imbued with a spirit of resignation; hence, even poor people consider themselves from the middle class. "Similarly, the way of life changes from town to town. Someone living in Mumbai will not have the same standard of living as someone in Bangalore. Other criteria come into play: leisure activities, comparisons, education, etc."

We need to live a life of simplicity, practical, knowledable and orginality - which in many factors change the standard of life in family rather than level of families

Rich people can afford whatever they need with the capitals to reopened any business, but poor people cannot do this and slowly all everything is being grabed by only the rich people.

Unfortunately, in our country, majority of people have poverty since decades, they are suffering without basic amenities like healthcare, basic education, roti, kapada and makaan.  but honestly our own elected and ruling governments did not do much regarding this since decades, there is no point in we discussing the issue, because none other than some intellectuals who are participating in these debate would see or understand the content.  even if one understands the same there is no one who could convey the matter and bring it to the knowledge of governance which as it is already they knows this, but it is more sad that they are not even understanding the burning issue till date, our great leaders like mayavati who came to power with the name of poverty, backward classes, minority etc., is busy in spending more than Rs. 1200 Crores in installing her statues which she could have used to do something for betterment of the deprived? neither she could realise nor the government could do anything about it? in the borders our solders are dedicating themselves for the security of nation, internally police which is struggling for internal security are very less paid, more than that the TEACHING community is struggling to meet the ends especially the primary and middle school staffs, the daily wagers, and coolies are struggling to bring sufficient earnings to their homes, it is the society, the ruling government which is more responsible for the issue, and as it is truly said, the richer is becoming more richer and so as poorer becoming more poorer, and the poor can not think of anything other than two time food, children education in government school/colleges, and the most minimum or negligible savings if any, good argument! truly touchy and inspiring!!

Democracy- I read some where -  'A system used by a smarter small group of people to control & rule over a less smarter & larger lot'- Look at our MPs- N how they rape our democracy using religion, money, caste, regionalism, power etc etc. Only when the vested interests of this ruling lot cease, can the real development of the masses can happen.

Good oughts and willingness will make the man, money, power and pride and pride to the nation.

The prime cause of poverty in India especially among the majority rural mass is the lack of environment to generate the minimum income needed for lively hood, from agriculture, employment or other resources.  Most of the unrest and disharmony happening every where, may it be of social, political, various disruptions caused by actions and counter actions of different ethnic groups and communities turning into religious extremism, are due to the shift in the focus of life among the mass especially the village youth, due to desperation fermenting of the prevailing situation that deprive them options and opportunities to grow up and lead a normal life.

Giving education is the most preliminery need to uplift the people.  However, educating the dalits and down trodden do not take of well becuase of the oppressive tendency of chauvinists in  Socio economic and religious upper class. In regions where educated percentage gone up, there had been reactions and counter reactions. With interference of vested interests of variou external forces, it breed anti social andti-secular activities.   In the fight between particular religious organisations taking interest to educate and provide community services to the poor in the villages, which is vehementally objected by other religeous groups saying that religious conversion is the main objective, the poor people become the ultimate suferers. It makes one wonder whether God need any one set for puny humans for His marketing, and another set for His protection and survival? There could be hidden interests on both sides.  So there is a need to address such systemic problems in society.

The American model of democracy where self-indebted vanity is the yardstick of development is not suitable for India. The consequences are obvious now.  China’s methods during the previous few decades though seem effective are too drastic and impractical to emulate here through a democratic process.

India needs a different type of democracy, knitting of a secularist nation with the threads of participation of the entire mass, one of the country’s big strengths, in every sphere of national growth thus realizing national integration in the course. Let us hope in the next five years there will be change for good.

Dear Ms. Beena, Look a little close. Had all these so called educated persons around us behaved with sense of social responsibility, shape of things would have been much better. I am not telling that educating the poor is not required. But unless there is change in the mindset of all, it is very difficult to achieve much with enforcement of law and regulations. Jokes apart, I am sure that the explosive possibilities being opened out in the field of bio science will come out with solutions to influence the behavioural pattern of people as a whole. About eradication of poverty,  please read  " A bitter Pill for India Rpreive" posted in five parts in this space, if you have time.  Should you prefer, I can send a copy by e-mailto you. Best Wishes, Paul

Hi Mr Paul, I dont think that this problem what you talked about can be solved by gene mapping or genetic engineering. Its just educational and behavioural problem I feel(please dont hesitate to inform if  I amWrong), If only government think about upliftment of rural and remote areas alongwith cocern about poor people than only the problem can be solved to some extent. For example Mr GoGoi himself is concerned about these people but he feels helpless so he is posting the problem in different ways again and again.

Yes,if big houses come ahead joining hands with government than also it will solve to some extent.

Thirdly,if in our education if we keep some priority courses to help these people than also it will be of great help ,I feel.

As its a bulk problem we have to think in bulk .No one can solve these problem single handedly.

Please guide if I am wrong.

I totally agree with Mr. Paul here, people are becoming more and more selfish as the time goes..people are into just building wealth and not values which is helping others also..so people who are having wealth are just dominating over who don't have money and do everything to make their life more miserable, and with this attitude of people, its hard for others to come up as there are so many of them above who don't want others to come up....

Of all its creations, Nature has blessed our 'Good Earth' with enough resources for every one to live in plenty. It is only our selfishness that prevent  equitable distribution of it. Even animals do not take from nature or keep more than what it want. Humans amass wealth and property out of proportion to their needs hardly share it with the needy and also blocks it from reaching them.

Even in their plentiness, humans invaded others domains and mercilessly killed the natives and aborigines grabbing their land and resources. It goes on and on in one form or other. We had hope in various Religious awakening like in the words "Love thy neighbor like thyself", "If you have two, give one to who has none”, and many times the atheists seem to be more reasonable in the human virtues that religions preach. The most unfortunate part is that with every new generation humans are becoming more selfish and aggressive, not surprising in this time where aggressive nature is considered a virtue. The only hope is that with advancement of bio medicine and bio technology, there will happen some positive change in re-mapping the chromosomes and genes to imbibe some tolerance, love and compassion in human beings. let us keep our fingers crossed and wait for the arrival of GM humans. Good luck

This is one of the reasons the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. You find that although the poorer class of people may be willing to better their lives they do not have the resource to do so. If they want to get into some venture where will they get the capital from. Obviously it will be very difficult for them to get even soft loans unless they have a godfather.

Poor people are sometimes not able to send their children to school because of not having enough funds to do so. However, there are many living example of very poor people due to sacrifices and no education were able to get up in life and became successful business people.

Poverty is a very touching topic for me....my heart goes out to all those poor people. Wish all of us could be enjoying the same kind of life..not rich or poor but simple people. However, this is just wishful thinking.

Its not just capital. Its lack of education that makes them vulnerable. They cannot think beyond labor! Their basic thought process subdues their desires!

All poor people dream of being rich one day, but what stops them from their aspirations? Their lack of knowledge, theior lack of confidence because of education and obviously their skill set! Its actually sad when you see these people toiling in all weathers just to make our life easier! I would say that they are far more richer than anyone of us... Why? Well for one they realise their limitations and work accordingly. They realise that they would never go beyond a certain level of income and LIVE accordingly!! Case in example: What happened to Azhar the boy from Slumdog Millionaire? Well he is HOMELESS!!

So its not who is richer in wealth but whio is richer in REALISATION! Good topic Mr. Gogoi.
