There are certain levels of a society. What we want is everyone should get what they deserve. Abolishing poverty won't mean that all the works will stop.

Poverty is relative. The wealth in any system is at the bottom of the pyramid. Every country, even within countries within social-economic strata the wealth difference is tremendous. I may be in abject poverty when say compared to Ambani, but am rolling in money as far as my servant-maid is concerned. Where do you draw the line? Business do not care - they look at the bottom base of the pyramid. Look at the super-high end cars & bikes for example are now being targetted at people they would not have dreamnt of doing 4-5 years ago.

Poverty is a lack of goods and services necessary to maintain a minimal adequate standard of living. The definition of the term adequate varies, however, with the general standard of living in a society and with public attitudes toward deprivation. No university accepted definition of basic needs exists because poverty is a relative concept. In poorer countries it means living at the brink of subsistence, while in our country few improvised families confront starvation, although many suffer from undernourishment. A key issue in the area of poverty is inequality. Inequality has been a problem in all societies. No society distributes income evenly. Despite all the conceptual and technical problems of measurement, the government has devised a widely cited poverty index that reflects the different consumption requirements of families depending on their size and composition, on the sex and age of the family head, and on weather they live in rural or urban areas.

We need people to do types of menial work like toilet cleaners and farmers. If poverty is eliminated it wud be difficult to get manpower to do any work, as there wud not be any need for people to work in lower jobs.

yes poverty is to be abolished in India, at least to the extent of everyone having the basic requirements like food, dress, and education. The education will give the opportunity to earn and elevate the standard of living up to some extent. Thanks for the referral Mr.Shrikant.

Support poverty to be abolished in India? Of course I support poverty to be abolished in India, we live in a democracy don’t we? The aim is equality for everyone? Give everyone education. Give everyone the right to resist exploitation. Let the country grow but not at the expense of the poor and not for the benefit of five per cent of the country. Let us get serious about all the laws about child labour, minimum wage and safety at the work place. If businesses exist by paying slave wages then it is better the businesses close down. Let us forfeit bribery as a customary tool for getting work done. Let us decide only to move forward ethically. Only then will we eradicate poverty. We are the people standing between a better life and the poor. Let us put a curb on our greed and desire to hoard. Chander Malhotra, Content writer

It is imposible to eradicate poverty as long as rich people are there, simply because Indian culture is such that we want slaves. Take for example the educated house wives who have wasted nations money for getting educated dont use it for productive purpose after marriage and every one support that, and because they are educated they dont want to do household work, They want a servant for cooking, for washing dishes, for washing cloaths and so on. WHen we cannot pay a salary like in developed country naturally we want poor people to exist so that they will be ready to do any work for a square meal. Now Who is poor? According to me a person is poor if he cannot afford atleast 50% of goods and service available in the market. If we adopt this definition then more than 90% of Indians are poor. Tatas and AMbanies may be apointing a well educated cook and a qualified maid who can manage to use the electronic gadgets and machines with out any one ssupervision. where as a middle class famliy (by fovernments definition) may be having an uneducated maid for diswashing and cooking. Thats the differance. Methods adoptedto maintain the ratio of Rich to various class of poor including the one I have defined above are: 1. All rich people are the great devotees of rich gods and they offer at least 0.1% of their earning to the gods and make poor people beleive that they became rich because they offered money to god. Poor in turn spend their life time savings on the same rich god thinking the god will give them at least tenfold and remain poor for their life time. These temples and the rich have poor feeding programms so that poor beleive that god has sent these rich to feed them when they are straving. 2. Government and the Politician who runs it. Wants poor people otherwise he cannot have any programme to uplift the poor and make money through such programmes and become rich. Now look at the pro poor programmes. You must have read in paper that even in a stae like Gujrat you will find doctors and Engineers in the list poor who took the benifit of governments propoor programme. Count the number of houses built, class rooms built, number people trained in various skills, No of free seedling distributed under various programms of the Government May be we must have built more house than required, or skills according to the utilization certificates of the concerned departments executing these programmes. Government thus helps continuation of poverty and at the same time creates more rich people to maintain the rich poor ratio. In such a situation can we eradicate poverty? How many of you wait for your servant or driver to pen the door of your car for you to get in? How many of you open the door of your car for wife or a lady to get in? How many of you want a security guard to selute you when ever you come in or go out? How many of you take your servant maid when you go for shoping to either carry the bags or to carry your child? WHo will come for these jobs unless they are poor. So gentleman change your habits first do your work yourself and then think of eradicating poverty.

For vote bank politics, our politicians have kept majority of them under illiteracy, forcing them to be poverty-stricken! Lalu had been doing it in Bihar for years, the scenario of Bihar has changed in the hands of Nitish Kumar! Awareness will happen only when like-minded people create a number of advocacy campaigns in the villages. Baba Ramdev is already doing a bit using his Yoga method. A lot many nationalists should join such campaigns to reverse the current imbroglio!
