Pre-stressed ones can be used, only when it is done in proper supervision. The process is a succes all over and it is provent to be usable. China constructs >90% of its heavy constructions with it. And beyond doubt, it is hugely cost effective, but again supervision while construction needs to be good enough.

The precast/prestressed components are not feasible in India.The reasons being that heavy structures should be configured at site and concreting done.PRC and PSC  have also inherent deficiency of maintenance.In case of accident,the replacement is very cost prohibitive where other mode of construction can be partially attended.

Precast and prestressed structures are now widely used in India, only care to be taken is proper supervision while casting and launching. It saves a lot of time and resources.

Yes, nowadays many use this method in the construction process. The main benefit is it is designed to minimize temporary form work and shoring. This helps in saving time and cost in the construction process.
