Also by Implementing PRE-PAID biiling system the unwanted usage could be restricted and the revenue would be collected on easy pace.

Yes, let the private players come to this sector and make drastic changes. This would also help in the decrease of current charge per unit if there are competitors. Anybody who can give us a high quality outcome for a cost effective price can be entertained. Regards, Anna George. Web Analyst. Nichepro Technologies. NO doubt by PRIVTIZING the scenario would certainely change as REVENUE would be generated in time BUT the system should be implemented as COMMON to all categories WITHOUT HAVING OPENING FOR POLITICIANS as maximum of power revenue gets blocked with them TODAY.

Most definitely. There are plenty of examples for that. Way back in the 80's, when it was still Calcutta, the city itself used to suffer power cuts of 6-10 hrs and throughout the year, not just in summer but after power was privatised and the RPG group took over, the power cuts ceased completely. But it is not enough if power is privatised, the govt has to give the private party a free rein including T&D. In india T&D loses are what bleed a state electricity board and if that is taken care of, then the private player will be in a position of strength to render good service.

Privatization is must to bring competition in the power sector, as far as the cost of power is concerned exchange play a big role today at exchange private generator from whole of the country trade their power on the other hand allthe buyer ( DISCOM) buy power from the exchange . this give the certainty of power and cost effeciency as well. hence privatization is must with development of exchange.

I support privatization with intelligent, strong, unbiased and active regulator being in place. Look at telecom, insurance, mutual funds sectors for example, customers are benefited. And there is no need to classify the customer as HNI/BPL/... Same thing apply to power too. Now in Mumbai customer got a choice to select power supply from Reliance/Tata. Why should it limit to Mumbai only. Privatization and competition always benefit end customers.

Private purchase and sale of power is already permitted via open access. However, in a deficit country, if the poor consumers are sacrificed by suppiliers to cater to higher paying consumers, very soon even the middle class will have to treat power as luxury. A regulated atmosphere is necessary to move to complete privatisation when consumers are the deciding entities. This can happen only when the power is surplus commodity.

Problem is not due to keeping the power generation in public sector, but because of the interference in clearing the project in time and exhibiting the criticality in favour of privatization. Tamilnadu faced criticality because of not taking up new projects by public sector during 2002 to 2006. Now only public sector projedt like North chennai and Mettur thermal are nearing completion promising some relief in near future

Simple No, as privatization is not the only answer to this problem because it also leads to favoritism in connection. Thanks for referral, Shikha.

If private companies can , why can't governement? This is the question govt should answer. Private companies will mean higher fare and this would not serve good for common man. Govt should definitely look into this and work for the possible improvement.
