Hey Mr. Ratin Deb, For strategically important material, we have a standard of getting a Third party / OWNERS site Inspection certificate. Based on this verification process only , we buy certain items, be it UK,USA,Europe or any other country. Purchaser can make an agreement with the Supplier, in case, items were found non-conformity to standard of requisition, material can be returned at the cost of the Supplier & due replenishment is to made at their cost. This we can negotiate at the time of entering into contract with the Supplier. Any negation / violation can be introduced with a penalty clause. Any thing, totally, violating (non-compliance) the agreement can be legally bind with Indian penal court(not China). For potential buyer there is no limitation in negotiation.

Buyers usually have quality inspection of all those materials that are imported from China either through their own quality managers or through third party audit. If the imported materials still did not meet the quality requirements then the fault is at the buyers end.

Level of risk depends on the specification of the product.if the product specification is precise with no room for mis interpretation, then the chance of failure in manufacture at low cost economy is minimized. Unfortunately, companies try the oldest product first for manufacture in emerging economies and these have often loop holes in specifications

It is a closest country where we have communication & transportation is comfortably , time-saving. We know well that, Chinese product are quality-wise inferior but cost-wise may be competitive. It serves the purpose immediately for a short duration . For bulk purchase, we can customize producer/ manufacturer to produce as per our quality requirements. This ,also indirectly, increase the co-operation in the Asian continent.

Depends on what we are looking for quality or quantity! But again in the end we don't want to end up being all about quantity or being cheap all the time. In certain things, quality does comes way ahead. And come on Indians, we are way ahead from China in quality, we just need to get our priorities and infrastructure straight! I live in California and I buy things just reading "made in India". !

Quality is directly proportional to the cost paid. Hence, definitely the quality is risky. More of concern is - A) The impact these goods (Mainly plastic) would have on the environment. Because of its low quality there would be more wastage. If a good quality product lasts for 3 years and sells for Rs. X and a Chinese product sells 5 times lesser but lasts for only 4 months, then over a period of 3 years, 8 units would be used and discarded. The disposal method and its impact on the environment must be of concern. B) China is communist and method used for manufacture is sure to have blatant misuse of human rights and human dignity. This should be of concern to all sane thinking human beings.

As a Materials Manager, your first priority is "Value for Money".... So one should never compromise on 'Quality' unless one intends to source 'Non-Critical, Low Value and mass-produced items...if so then CHINA it is!!!
