strongly oppose. Brand is created by years of investment which is merely a fn of functional benefit which the consumers enjoy. Branding is a fn of investment in products and is a fall out of emotional and rational equity. Hence you need not necessarily have a strong branding aspect involved but also delivery on the promises made by the brand which is product performance. By performance i mean not only in terms of delivering the desired result but also service (if at all)

According to my view, Noone can say Brand is important because Brand derives from the maintaining the quality of the product for prolonged time.So this leads to the product permanently fixed in peoples mind ,so the the Brand comes next.For example if the Branded product is manufactured by X company in a economic rate, so people will follow that X brand product only.So here product stands last long standing in Society not a Brand. It's the quality of the product which makes aware of the brand. So at first product is more important. Once the consumer are satisfied with the product then they recognise the brand and become loyal to that brand. After getting the good brand image in their mind, they become less concious about the product then. Once this halo effect infect their mind they just go for that brand only.

A brand is born out of a quality product that sells like hot cakes. Definitely, product is important but a product is not a product if it does not have a brand that it builds over a period of time and graduates from 'producthood' to ' brandhood'.

Even a good product cant work wonders for itself, until and unless supported by a strong brand. It helps to reach out the target customer faster and more efficiently. At least the brand value helps establish the first contact with the consumer, later it depends on the strength of the product to ensure re usage.
