Here is the political manifesto of PPI. Read it, visit www.ppi.net.in and answer will you vote for it?

Indian politics is in a complete mess. Professional politicians are half the problem - politics as a profession is the other half! A democracy where 40% are illiterate and abjectly poor inevitably contains a gullible and vulnerable electorate. Glib promises, bribing and charity easily misguide voters. “Getting elected” has become an end in itself! Those who get elected have no plans or objectives. Their only objective is to get elected. Obviously it must be very profitable. Politicians can be generalized as having become visionless. Corruption is widespread. Goondaism and criminalization of society is the logical off spin. VIPism gives them the insulation they need. More insulation generates greater power. The amoral political class, bereft of any semblance of accountability, is completely and utterly untouchable today. It is a ball sliding downhill. Many believe it is already too late to arrest the speeding ball. Hope lies in what is said in the Foreword to this Manifesto. The professional “middle class” has to rise to the occasion and offer the only viable alternative to the current political scene - rotten, vitiated, completely degenerate and futureless. If every professional voter shares the point of view contained in this Manifesto with two other voters in his or her circle of influence, then a systemic change in the politics of India can be brought about. 1 Create a system of accountability and performance measurement for every politician holding office. 2 Cut down expenditure on politicians holding office by 50% 3 The Election Commission should not just ask for disclosure of wealth, it should ask for disclosure of the source of that wealth. 4 All winning candidates should be treated as TRUSTS. Which means, while the maintenance of politicians holding public offices (and obviously of their dependent family) shall be on the state, they shall earn no money while in office. 5 All politicians holding public office shall live in modest homes, befitting the national economy of India. 6 The Lok Pal bill shall be made applicable to every politician holding office, except the PM. 7 Politicians holding public office shall retire at age 65.

Although we haven't seen any MPs of PPI but I think its worth giving a try. Atleast it identifies root causes of our problems and its candidates are Indian professionals which are worldwide renowned for their competence.

I would like to make it clear in the beginning itself, that simply because I argue on the negative site, it does not mean that I am not appreciative of the good spirit behind the move. The very spontaneous urge to do something about the political system in our country deserves praise. But it is not enough.

When such attempts are made, it is usually spoiled by over-cautious friends. The arguments like, "Let us make a good start and then touch sensitive matters"; "Let us 'catch' power first and then we would announce revolutionary things"; "We have to be pragmatic. Otherwise we cannot even raise our heads." and things like that.

Many such measures become 'stillborn' due to lack of courage, vigor and determination. I am not just finding fault with the people who have come forward to do some work. But the truth is that unless the initial steps are forceful enough, they would have to meet a premature death. Right from Swarajya Party led by Rajaji, our country's history has numerous examples for this.

After Independence Jawaharlal Nehru became virtually 'uncrowned king'. Had he taken a few really courageous steps, a number of problems could have been completely avoided. But one who wants to appease everybody could not achieve anything.

For example, take caste system. It could have been a very useful social system once; but in modern times it is not acceptable. Nehru was also not for caste system. He could have wiped out that in a trice but why he did not do it? It was because the crooked politicians want the caste system to prolong. They have actually made it permanent after Independence by linking it with all governmental help and reservations. Finding it very handy for them they would not let it go. Many such things could be said but I stop here for want of space.

Why not bring corruption to zero level within a month? Is it not possible for the governmental machinery? Won't common man like it? They won't do because the politicians need it.

A new party can enlist the support of common men and come to power, if it is serious enough, bold enough, and truthful enough. After going through the website, I am of the view that the approach of the ppt is soft. It is not powerful and aggressive enough. Sweet promises are usual and people are familiar with them. There is no proof for real 'anger' and 'commitment' against all the atrocities going on in this country. So I will not vote for it.
