Most investors in India appear to prefer investing in property than other saving schemes. As the property price has gone up, people are spend more money in real estate, which leads to less investment in other sectors. The people also remain bullish about the local property market and expect residential real estate prices to further rise.

This real estate boom is unrealistic and will burst some time soon. But people do not seem to understand it. We have seen this cycle happen over and over again.

I also think we should look for more diversification. As far as Indians, especially people from my state are concerned sentiments prevail over prudence and if unchecked can fuel asset bubbles. But another important aspect regarding, with special reference to kerala is realty is an excellent option for money laundering.

Investment in properties are much coveted because it maintains the value of your savings when the currency looses it's power to hold more value on a daily basis. Stocks don't hold that value unless held for long time waiting for it to spike which happens only once in a while. Currency might loose 20% value and stocks will give you 20% return which equates to your savings not growing at all, where as real estate might grow at say 100% making your savings grow by 80% effectively. In the long run property gains may be many folds where as stocks might double in value only in 5years in normal cases and more in other companies.

Investments are basicaly by capital accumulating class and personal savings are by individuals though they have a connection. When the stock prices are up the capital acumulating class tend to invest more and less otherwise. These are due to economic factors.

Property prices move up in such times when the stock go up or they have contempranious movement not one leading or laging the other.

Nop.. i dont think hike in property prices are anyway avoiding investors from investing in saving schemes. The factors involved in property investment and other saving schemes are completely different and also the set of investors vary with the asset class such as property. I feel there is good lot difference in both the investors one investing in property and saving schemes. The set of objectives behind such investments vary a lot. Therefore, i dont feel hike in property prices is major reason behind lower saving schemes investors. ... Thank you, Manish N

Cheers!!
