Will Ipads, tablets, Kindles etc change the way book publishers deliver and distribute content? More so Text Books for students? Is an impending shake up for this industry going to be precipitated by the above?

Yes, these new technologies will shake up the publishing industry. For school text book publishers, its a wake up call. The sooner they look at newer ways of creating and delivering content, the better their chances for survival. The 4 P's have to be rethought and the business models changed quickly. In India with the RTE and the coming of foreign universities, the demand for educational content is going to boom. The first ones to ride this wave, using a designed business model that serves the end customer, will be really big in the next few years.

We have over 60% of our population to be educated and a few percentage of them could afford to the electronic gadgets! Text books in muti-lingual editions will be force inspite of these technological invasions in this country. On top of it, no publisher is seriously considering Braille books for children and elders of differently abled people, though their numbers are dismal compared to our very huge population, publishers should think of re-producing almost all the volumes in Braille for the benefit of them!
