If quick construction is done by undertacking parallel activity without compremising the required processing/setting time quality will not be compromised whoever if we go for quick consruction for short time quick gains then certainly quality will get deterioted.

I agree with joydeep Concrete requires certain curing time and shutters should be removed as per prescibed time. In some cases we see shutters removed early to save cost of shutters or speed up the construction. However, time can be saved by properly organising the material, labour. Moreover quality of the material should not be compromised to get good quality construction.

Oh yes, no doubt. There are at times when buildings collapse without alarm and kill its residents because of poor lapses in the quality of the construction material. But that does not mean you take decades to complete a floor in an apt. in the name of Quality.Setting a time frame without ant compromise in the quality is the essence of any quality construction and an achievement for any builder.

Mostly, A YES. Cheap quality stuff is used, labor is pressurized and the structure hence built may not stand the tide of time. Ready made castings is another issue altogether. But for a construction to stand tall in the long run, time is required. I am not saying years and years of time but yes, if you are planning on its might, give it some months' time.

no ,quick construction do not lead to less quality as there is a huge competition in the real estate business so no consumer want to sacrifice in terms of quality and marketer also know this to be in competition he has produce good quality of product.

in most cases it is yes. But actually it quality may not suffer if the construction is quick provided good management and plants machineries used with modern technology applications but it is less possible in all cases. So generally quality may be affected.

i do not think that the quality of construction of ARK Hotel in China (15 storeys) completed in 136 hours does not satisfy the standards. it is evident that quality of construction is directly related to proper planning and not in the curing time of concrete or removal of shutters..

I do not understand "quick construction".There is a method, planning and work will move progressively. So low quality does not come about. Yes, if you mean, that there is pressure all around to complete it before or well before projected dates,it may affect the quality. So escape route is to complete each mile stone as planned without compromising the quality.

Last week there was buzz of a fifteen story hotel being constructed in China in just 6 days by Broad Group. They followed all building codes and used high quality materials. Also it can sustain a 9 Richter scale earthquake they claim. So, quick construction is feasible with right kind of technology, project management and stringent quality.

usage of "Cheap" material in the sense you have used the word shall effect construction be it fast or slow. Further, other than excessive time crashing construction projects are only conceived in months not in days

NO,not at all if the things are planned in appropriate manner fast construction can be carried out as far as technical field is concerned. for quick loading different grades of cement is available which can be utalised in guidence of appropriate design people.QUALITY MAY NOT DETRIRIOATE.

No. Quick construction does not means that less/poor quality. Advance technology are available which give you more conviniency and less consume time.If your management, planning advanced technology etc everthing is good- proper, then quick construction is possible.

No not quick. But too much time crashing does takes its toll. There is a limit to providing resources and speed up the construction without compromises.

While I am not an expert or a professional in this field, but certainly can comment based on my experience as a Civil Works Manager (Facilities manager in common parlance)It depends on the structure that is being erected. There are prefabricated support structures like walls, columns, pillars and beams which are primarily intended as time saving tools. What really leads to poor quality is the inputs that go in either the construction or the prefabrication and insufficient /improper curing. Thanks for the invite and warm regards.

I am very much sure that rapid construction is having the less quality work. As where I am working and we are promoting the very rapid construction material (which is called the AEROCON panel), but as I know where any foundation is required the time to construct like foundation plinth, beam and other supporting structure this is necessary. You may take the example of DMRC and PEB structures. One thing you may notice that in these type of structure, total building dead load will be very less and space saving and you all re aware that Delhi is in seismic zone 4. One more time I assure you that rapid construction is less quality of work all the time. “Just see around of you”.

I strongly say No. Interestingly in any industry lowering the speed will always affects the quality of the product. Speed works will leads to the precision standards of the product.

Construction is not all about Cement and Mortar, MEP and finishes works. There are other factors involved in any construction too (see second paragraph). However, if in this debate Surekumar means ‘Quick Construction’ purely as Construction activities of Civil, MEP and Finishes work, even then it is not always true that quick construction can always lead to poor quality. Construction Technology and Management gives several solutions to attain good quality in less time. For example Stone Cladding building envelops can be replaced by glass curtain wall or GRC (Glass Reinforced Concrete panel) to reduce the duration to quarter. Early strength attaining concrete can reduce the form work cycle time. On the resource management good scheduling and resource planning can too reduce the construction duration too. However, I do agree that there is a least duration for a construction activity, if the duration is crushed beyond this point, it shall be definitely detrimental to the construction quality and in several instances safety of the workmen. The concrete example has been rightly highlighted by Joydeep Dasgupta. Now coming back to bigger scenario of total project delivery, it can be broken-down in three phases, Project Procurement – where the project sponsor (i.e. funding), the designer and the contractor (s) are selected, Design – where the project is being designed and approval are being obtained and at last the Construction. If the owner manages the project well, manages Procurement and Design phases at in optimal time and chooses the design which is less time consuming, the overall project can be delivered in lesser time even without crashing the constriction durations. However, experienced and qualified project managers are required to manage this.

Planned quick construction has no effect on quality but while managing unforeseen time over run sudden speeding up of construction may lead to quality lapses
