Now a days radio is come into BTL activity because the use of radio as BTL promotion like contest, sms, RJ mention, promotion by RJ, festival celebration etc. Since 2 years , radio is using as BTL and there is also growth in radio. Before that it was calculating in ATL concept. RJ is most contributed in BTL promotion & they are also giving some extra effect toward brand.

I would disagree here....yes radio has the reach but has its limitations, one can only just hear what is happening around and seeing is much better than beleiving and still Radio has some catch up to do with other mediums according to me.

I dont think so.. nowadays radios are BTL only. The percentage of using radios is reducing day by day so its waste of advertising or sharing info in radios.

AV should be considered only in ATL category. Radio comes after.

No doubt Radio is BTL,As people give more attention towards audio visual effects where radio has very less demand bcz of the only voice oriented device,As of now technologies grown up so much,people can have n numbers of gadgets which they can use in their day-to-day life for entertainment or anything which we can not even get from that Radio,But still i praise n say Radio should be in ATL so that one day it will not lose the existance.

Obviously Radio as BTL  and radio is also getting positive response. Ad agency or direct company are promote their brand as BTL promotion activity like in festival various btl activity organized by radio, Presence of famous RJ in festival, RJ mention, CSR activity, contest, gift voucher, Corporate interview etc. Radio as BTL....

ATL is any communication made through a mass medium not targeting the focussed TG. There is no way Radio can be positioned in BTL, its completely an ATL medium. And even though a lot of amplification of BTL activities happen through RJ mentions and OB Links, its just amplification of an ongoing independent activity.

Though i agree that Radio is coming under BTL nowadays - they also come under ATL. ATL when a client takes up pure programming ad spots or sponsorships of programmes. BTL when there is on ground activation or usage of the RJ for an event. Hence it is part of both ATL and BTL.

The Radio has an edge over other media services because it is always accessible even when one is busy with other activities. In olden days we used to study while listening to favourite songs being played at a low tone as background. Even while driving one can listen to songs, important news, messages, local traffic conditions, jokes and a variety of other programmes. The popularity of Radio has resulted in the coming up of multiple FM stations in several cities. The quality of Radio programmes has improved considerably in the last decade. I had argued with my father in the early 70's that as TV becomes accessable to the majority the radio will disappear. He had remarked that the TV will never be able to replace the radio. His words are true till today and I hope will remain true always.

Today we find most rural folks, youngsters and even elders walk around with their mobile phones tuned to FM radio stations.

In a slightly different context, though, the use of GPRS in mobile devices is yet another use of RADIO COMMUNICATION.

Radio may never catch up with other medium since no urban population hear radio at home. Yes in our 6 lakh villages this may be termed as a good medium but with the reach of television that will also die down one day.

Radio as a medium of advertising is still considered under ATL as it approaches and appeals to the mass whereas if we talk about BTL it is more focused on one to one appeal.Here the communication is on one to one basis but the approach as an advertiser is to the mass.

Now a days more than 60% youngster use to listen FM. Vividh Bharti is still very much popular and millions of listener across the country enjoy about all the programs.
