It is because we can see the temple/ mosque/ church. If I want to see the children to whom I am donating, many NGOs replied that they are in some place far away from where I am staying. I refused to pay unless I see the kids. They are willing to show some photos but I am not satisfied. Is it the problem with Donors or NGOs ?

Dear All I have worked with Develeopment sector for quite sometimes now. Raising fund in India is a mixed feeling its easy as well as tough. People are generious as well as consdervative. They will give lakhs and crocres of money to build temple ,mosque and other activities but they will not give even 1 Rs tpo educate some body. Please put your thought to this. Shabir Hussain

I think that's because all of us have at least 1 experience of a rogue NGO making merry on your hard earned money...but if some trustworthy people try and arrange for funds for some good cause (especially involving kids) I believe most people open up.. I have myself seen more than 5 such cases...

There are over 4.80 lakhs NGOs across the country. The mushrooming of NGOs formed with dubious purpose are really vitiating the environment. Many of them are used mainly to park funds earned through dubious means, only to siphon off at a later date. Also, they use them for money laundering purpose. In the process, many of the truly-spirited NGOs are getting affected. I've seen NGOs collecting funds at the behest of handicapped and destitute children and the organisers use the fund, thus collected, for their travel abroad, participating in various international events, etc., not spending adequate on them. Therefore, good work of certain NGOs are burried!

Yes, it is tough since the NGOs are non-transparent in their activities.

The NGOs or some other organisation who are raising funds must be transparent enough in their activities.

Some NGOs (I personally know them) are being floated eyeing for the funds received from the Govt., and they wont be having any commitment for the cause they took up. Its a business model for them to earn easy money. They are making mockery of the rules.

At the same time I also know some NGOs who are committed for the cause  irrespective of the receipt of funds. But, how to know who is good and who is not.

NGOs who are serious enough has to be transparent in their activities to instill confidence in the public in general and to raise funds from the public.
