I think the problem was not the evolution of middleman it was their strategy which was too aggressive and they tried to capture entire market.

I think this was the main reason that give to a lot of fight with the conglomerate and because of it, the company has suffered a great loss.

Agreed..its not the middlemen that have let Reliance down. They are here to stay. They should be viewed as the rural counterparts of the kirana owners. As we expect both to coexist at the front end, similarly at the back end also both middlemen and companies into direct farm procurement will coexist

As for the front end, it is taking time to morph and evolve, so is the back end. Its only that the decision and strategy makers didnt realise that the back end was also prone to competition

yes Rajendra is right here and  one can't say it was a failure, it is just that they came up with so many things at a time and they wanted to create monopoly of some sorts which didn't work out and even there is serious shortage of skilled man power in this field who can handle things, and it is now that this organized retail that is taking shape, and its a booming business, and it still has got time to proove and it will pick up in the future, as organized retail is having great future,as consumers want everything under one roof...

There is no point of failure or sucess, there is much more to do in this bussiness of fresh produce, actually there is great need of skilled manpower right from grassroot level. There is lot more to do in supply chain and logistics of f&v. I don't think it right to say "failure" in such small span.

How convenient it is to blame the government.. There are flaws in government and then there were always flaws there.. now we can see them clearly because many people are coming up and giving voice to the wrong practices..
It is a wonderful concept but we need a right plan to follow it. Just an idea wont help.
