As we know, the humanity over a period of milleniums, has divided itself into different religions and faith, in the name of seeking the Divine Bliss, to pray the God. But, right since the days when Human race became "civilized" or even earlier, the people of different faiths have been fighting with each other, just to establish the supremacy of one faith over the other. The fight goes on....
I fail to appreciate, what might have been going in the minds of the "Dharmgurus" when they ever gave a thought to launch a new faith.... Did they know that they are giving birth to a new factor for dispute among the people of Earth ?? If so, then their step to create a new faith was filled with malafide intention.. And if not, then the things have not gone as per their vision..
In any case, so far, I have not been able to think of any good that any of so many faiths might have done to the humanity. Had it not been better if the world would have only one faith or even if the world might have been without faith. Atleast the people would have one less cause to shed the blood of their brethren..
I know, my knowledge in this fild is very less. I, through this Blog, invite comments of the learned men who may focus upon the concerned issues - what good has any faith done to the Humanity ??

Religion has always been a boon to the Humanity. As all rivers lead to the oceans, all religions try to lead us to the good path of life. If some fanatics of any or some religions take it the extremes of professing and practicing violence, their religions should not be blamed for that. No religion preaches violence against other religions, forceful conversions or terroristic acts. All these are individual practices of some mad-persons who claim to represent their religions; whereas they have always been a minority acting much against the chagrin of the majority. This should not let us lose our sanity to hang religion as a bane to the humanity.

I think that Mr. Markand is right when he says means do not matter what matters is the end. However the thought wud remain incomplete unless we decide toward what ends are we suppose to move.( i suppose our end is not the existing dog fights that you suppose to justify in the first para) It is humbly submitted that religion is not about blindly believing and then leaving every thing to God.it is hard to define religion here ,but for me , it is the faith and submission to moral force within you. This brings in your actions morality, strength , serenity and above all peace. These are the real ends that every human wants.

Sarika, Thanks for invitation to this debate. You neatly explained all the things. In no way we can say that Religion is a bane for humanty. In dictionaries, religion is defined as “any specific system of belief, worship, or conduct that prescribes certain responses to the existence (or non-existence) and character of God.” Also, “a set of attitudes, beliefs, and practices pertaining to supernatural power.” or in simple words "a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny" The essence of all the religions in the world is to love each other. Those who are fighting in the name of religion is not the real followers of any religion. As Mata Amrinandamayi said "Those who are saying my religion is good yours is not is like my mother is good and yours is .P.......
