As there is huge demand for crude oil as fuel and coal for the generation of electricity, day after day the natural reserves are declining all over, and the way the world is consuming these non-renewable energy for the normal functioning of the day to day activities all over, in future which is not so far will be finding themselves with severe shortage, and on the other hand there is Renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro, wind, biofuel etc., these are still in the Nascent stages of development and ressearch as compared to non-renewable energy sources,Keeping nature and GHG in mind, what do you think is the good, the old petrol and diesel is good with normal power supply or the biodiesel and solar a good option for you.......So Renewable OR Non-Renewable will this debate ever end...  What are your views on this.....

Technologies such as Solar Thermal power have been developing over the past few years. Today, a 50 MW solar thermal power plant can be constructed and made operational in just 2-3 years.

"Coal is a necessity. Solar is an opportunity"

India should take immediate steps to invest in Solar thermal power technology. In Spain and Germany, the government had given attractive feed in tarriffs. People may argue that why should we subsidise solar? But then, let us not forget that Coal, oil and gas have been subsidised for decades now. So why not solar for a few years? In Europe, the cost of electricity generated from solar is around 0.18 euro / kWh compared to 0.06 euro/kwh for electricity generated from coal based plants.

For the benefit of readers, the following solar thermal technologies are avaialble - Solar Parabolic Trough Collector, Solar Stirling Engine, Solar Tower and Solar Chimney.

I could provide more details to anyone who is interested in knowing more.

Mr. Dayanand, a common disadvantage on behalf of Renewable energy to is that it is difficult to produce the large quantities of electricity as to their counterpart the fossil fuels are able to. Since they are also very  new technologies, the cost of initiating them is very high. So i will go with Non renewable at this point of time.

Renewable source of energy are the best use of any energy materials. Non renewable sources cannot be recycled and also they will extinct since they are limited whereas by repeated recycling, renewable resources can be used again and again. It is also cheap to get and easy to use...

Nature has provided us all we need and we are misusing it for our greed. Only extra-ordinary taxation on power consumption can stop/ reduce the irrepairable damage.

gaining power without disturbing the environment is a nice-n-clean idea itself.

no one can deny the irreversible damage done to the atmosphere by fossil-fuels.

the only gud part about fossil-fuel is its ease of utility, but had it been the case that we had put equal efforts developin renewable energy sources...we cud have come far...

I fully agree with Mr.Dayanand. Renewable energies are not fantasies of future, but they are the solutions of future. We must start working from now on. Its the responsibility of our generation to guarantee a better future for mankind. So despite the odds, whatever it may be, we must do something. At least be optimistic about doing something now than leaving this as a matter of future. It may be expensive; but its our only solution. There'll be not much developments in the future if we dont need them now.

The renewables easily win this debate by simply waiting until the non-renewables are gone.  When there is no petroleum there will be no debate.

Dear Mr. Chandrasekhar,

I fully agree agree with you . In  connection with environmental protection ,exploration of CDM for future power plants is need of the hour.

Will you share your experience regarding various option of solar plants - and the latest technology status ?

yes Renewable energy is the only solution for the raising demand of energy.

Hi friends, with the concerened of your discussion one thing is clear in our mind that today or in near future we will have to be use the renewable sources of energy to save our green house and future of the comming generation. so this is the right time to think over option of renewable energy and take effective measure to made easily available this energy source for the nation.

I don't agree with both of them, if we don't act now with the situation, the Global warming will be more due to GHG and the world which we are living in will go under serious changes, where the artics are melting like anything with serious climate change, and not so far we will show our children different species which lived there in pictures. So we should choose Renewable energy over the non-renewable, and this change should happen with people taking initiative by themselves in protecting the planet....

I would rather go in favor of nuclear energy than renewable source of energy keeping in mind our ever increasing energy need that cant be fulfilled by the renewable source. but there is no option of nuclear energy so i would go in favor of nonrenewable sources as they will never be a reason for extinction of the cute penguin and polar bears.

Yes i agree with Mr. Singh, the  Non renewable will work for the time being, but then effective measures need to be taken for the future where there will be serious shortage of the natural reserves. And according to me for future the Renewable will work but for present Non-Renewable is good...There are other ways to cut down on Green house gas emissions.....

According to me for the time being the good old petrol and diesel will work much better than Renewable just because not enough progress has happened in the Renewable energy category. And the renewable energy in terms of fuel will cost more than the normal one, so in this situation of high inflation and all i will stick to the normal fuel than the biofuel.

I agree with Soma. Not always we can assure of "No fire" in oil depot. We can only do preventive measures. Oil related fire accidents are common across the world. Then why only to blame india of not being able to control these cases...
Nice insight Varsha, some good points made there, which will surely help a lot...thanks for sharing.
While constructing, go for skylighting, go for sloped roofs with glasses which allows light during day, and on one end of the slopes you can go for solar panels, or in the slope itself one can insert photo voltaic cells in place of tiles...have more...
