actually it must be clear what reputation does mean? specially if this type of Que. is being asked. if it is concerned only to the money power etc. then certainly character otherwise hitler & RAWAN likes must have been worshiped but if it is concernedd with the human certainly its the reputation e.g. through which mean Gandhi, Terresa, Luthar king had raised themselves by virtue of reputation provided by people.

Dear Mr. Sridhar , It is the exact opposite of what you say. Your reputation is given by others ; it is based on what they see of you , not what you actually are. Character is what you are. You may be a fraud , but you may have a reputation of a virtuous man ; this is what has happened to several "godmen" ! Whereas , if you are of good character , you can never gain a reputation of a notorious scoundrel.

Dear Mr. Jayaraman , If you are really what you claim you were , you should be proud ! Why are you feeling resentful ? It is a fact that one is good because one believes in goodness as a way of life , not because there are monetary gains to be made from one's virtuousness ! If it were so , then everyone would be virtuous ! The world over , it is a fact that being virtuous is : a) Very difficult b) Not very paying That is the reason , there are very few virtuous people in this world. Jayraman What ever u do while your job was just honesty (probably you was anticipatory thinking that you can impress your bosses that u are a honest person) it show Ur character that you was trying to affect the results/ achievements . that leads to ur reputation and you was shown the door.. hehehe... Everyone is concerned about character because Personality and reputation are like images that people see and judge us by. It may be a beautiful, fragile camouflage that attracts people to us, but shatters quite easily if lacking substance. If reputation is a glamour, then character is actuality, based firmly on knowledge, truth and trust. The fact that reputation is temporary can be seen by the rapidity with which it changes. On the other hand, no one but you can destroy or built your own character. Personality or reputation without character will fall apart sooner or later. How long can you carve a rotten wood?
Reputation may be manipulated, character is constant and reflects the core values.
Reputation may be an overdraft, character is your bank balance.

I am fully agree with you Sunilji. The saying reproduced by you is the best to support this debate. Everything said and clear in the saying. Character of an Organization or person makes him much more believable. So in total Good character takes a country ahead and at last a characterful person becomes reputed.

In today's world , No matter how good character you are having , If you have no good reputation , no body will ask about your character. A good character may not result into good reputation but good reputation will always result into good character. Why do we send our children to a reputed tution class instead of sending them to a very good character individual teacher ?
