Need your views on projects insisting on usage of tools such as Enterprise Architect, or  RequisitePro (IBM). Pros and Cons, considering the wholistic impact on the project assuming that this is completely new to the team members. Please share your experiences, if any.

As these tools are something new within the project, looks very interesting, but somehow get a feel that this would become an overhead for projects trying to implement usage of tools.

Need your views.

Harish,

I have been in PM for nearly a quarter of a century. I can tell you that systematic requirement elicitationis not only a necessity on a project but also a significant insurance against problems down the line. The use of tools is exactly that.....use. So one identifies the tool that is most suitable for your project. Familiarity with a particular tool is a useful skillset in one's resume. As Swati has pointed out, specific assistance is possible only if i have details of your project. Be careful about disclosing project details though. Your organization may object.

But one thing I must stress......learn the art of systematic requirement elicitation. It is an asset like no other in your PM career. good luck.
