Yeah, too much comforts do not favor overall development of a person whether it's child or an adult. On child the effect can be seen easily. Even for adults, too much comforts cause laziness and do not develop tolerance which is required as such to live better quality of life. But now people are engaged in ratrace and they feel everything can be achieved via money so everything is money. Materialistic life can never give satisfaction and fulfillment in life. Spiritual,Social and Mental compartments of our Mind are more important to feel that bliss in life than mere physical comforts which does not provide anything as such!

yes we are spoiling our next generations personality development by providing facilities and comfort to them,sound odd right? but if u thing in deeper terms u will accept my concept.Natures rule is survival for the fittest, and strugle for existence .and we all know it very well.once a zoology professor had asked his class students to carefully observe a butterfly that was emerging from its coccoon to become a adult buterfly and warned not to touch it and left the room. after much patience watching of the strugling of the moth to come out one of the student broke open the cocoon to release it free.but suddenly in few movements it died.when the professor came bach he heard the story and said it was its strugling tht would have made its wings strong enough to survive and fly in environment and as u have not given the opurtunity to it to strugle u killed it.so like this everyone has to struggle and gain what they want and the lesson they learn make them fit to fight back the society and exist in dare cirumstances .but todays parents in an beleif not to allow their kids to suffer in life they provide them all sorts of facilities and comfort and the child infact becomes handicapped to fight for its desires and fulfilling its goals .its overall personality development slows down and it mere enjoys what it has got and demands for more then try ing itself to get it.
