Retention of old employees are better, new hires will reduce your productivity for some days till they understand the process ...... so always try to retain your old employees, if not possible then prefer new hires !!

yes, i agree to this statement because to hire new employees is to invest time to make them understand the things going in a company in form of trainee. so after understanding the process of company the new hires come with new ideas to match with the company profile and this is a long procedure and in current world time is money so to earn profit it is essential to retain employee to run buisness smoothly.

It is always better to retain the old employees, as they know the business and the culture of the organization. New Hires will take time to adjust to the corporate culture and there is an initial learning curve involved....

thanks Alex to have invited me, any case I feel to be obliged to support an opposite opinion due to actual unbalance here (:-).

As in everything, there is a right measure also between retain and hire: you cant have a sustainable organization (for example regarding innovation, energy etc.) without supporting a right level of exchange with the environment: people who are leaving and people who are entering.

In my opinion you have to assess the level of turnover is functional to your business model and proactively support it, also avoiding to try to retain "all good guys who are leaving"
