I agree with you santosh.....

But many companies do it for that purpose only because profit is the main motto for a business.

But at the same time they should understand the feelings of the employees too. So this action can be taken by keeping the present situation in mind but should not let the employees down permanently....

EMPLOYERS SHOULD THING TWICE BEFORE EMPLOYING PEOPLE AND HAVING RETAINED THEM FOR SOME TIME SHOULD ONLY THINK OF UTILISING THEIR SERVICES TO INCREASE PRODUCTION AND PROFITS.

Retrenchment of employees as seen in the past, does not have basis. The reason given is rationalization. Often companies are laying off employees on the basis of personal grudges with their superior or HR. People who are close to management survive these layoffs. Companies do not see in this case the role employee is playing. How important is it for the project. In fact in one of the organization it retrenched those employees who were on low paid salaries rather highly paid employees, who were making less contribution to the Co.

I agree with Janaki Ram. Actually such questions should not arrise in an organised company.

The staffing is based on long term planing. The long term is a composition of a series of short term planing hence the retrenchment of staff/s doesnot arrise at all in the first place. On top of that no company will retrench staff/s in order to increase profits since the other staffs are watching and the progress graph of the company will start showing down turn trend immidietly.

So according to me the retrenchment of staffs in ordr to increase profit does not go together. At the most to reduce expenses the company may offer volentry retirment plans to the willing employees.

not right if the purpose is to rip more and more profit. it should be done only when the existence of the organisation is in danger.

Retrenchment is a necessary evil for any industry. It can not be termed as an illmethod by employers and needs to be assessed in proper perspective for a given business situation.

it,s right but need is that we should understand the problem for this, there are many social and organizational problem which hinders the efficiency and effectiveness of employee.retrenchment of the employees should be done as last resort not first we should provide proper training and motivation according to their job.i never favour downsizing of organisation only for profit making, every organization should understand that they have at least some social responsibility towards society that they should create job and opportunity for people not to shrink this only for profit.

The motto of the company is also to survive itself & to ensure perpetuity in its succession, that’s actually in favor of at least some employees, better than the proposition where none of the employees would have the opportunity to work  or the organization would default for their salaried & benefits or may be compelled reduce their salaries.

The only point is that the retrenchment compensation should be reasonable for an employee to get along for some time without Job.

It may be noted that at some instances the retrenchment compensations given to the employees had been a handsome amount & they have job options too.

For employer it would be beneficial if it can try engaging the employees to some other assignment outside the organisation before getting to retrenchment option with a open hand offer to re-employ them if future possibilities allow.
