Australian and British cricketers have said South Asian cricketers culturally do not share the values of 'honest' cricket.  And Australian cricket team captain Ricky ponting has gone a bit far and has given infact a racist kind of a comment, where he has targetted particularly Sub-continent countries and its players and their culture saying it breeds corruption and all.

What do you think people, Does sub-continent's culture breeds corruption? Do share your views on this...

Ponting's statement is a sheer nonsensical one exposing his immature and racist attitude. Culture has no bearing on corruption. It is the greed to amass money disproportionate to one's efforts and capability that makes any human being of any culture or country to be corrupt.

It is amazing to see that inspite of knowing the fact that we are one of the most corrupt nation and society, we are not able to accept a criticism. Its funny to say that whole world is corrupt, ponting is corrupt and that there is corruption in Australia also.

What about scales? Have we really got face to point our finger on anybody else?

i totally agree with you, corruption has got nothing to do with culture, ricky ponting needs a study of the world history and how the governments fell under the burden of corruption in various continents and countries

Yes, Ayan, The root of corruption is from western countries. The present day corporate culture, whatever we see, are imitated from western countries only. And Ricky Ponting, as usual wants to blame asians for anything and everything. For him muthiah muralidharans bowling is corruptetc.

Both supporters of YES and NO are saying the same thing here..that Ponting is wrong....

Whatsoever, I go by the manner in which the question has been presented.

The question is not looking for behaviour in field the perspective is the recent happenings with Pakistan players which pertains to match fixing i.e. bribery.

AND I TOTALLY AGREE WITH PONTING THAT BRIBERY COMES TO US BY OUR CULTURE.

now don't tell me that our culture is based upon Geeta and Kuran which never promote corruption...if it is so then what is happenin in CWG...I think this much is enough for now to make my point.

ayan if you go back to history you will find that all the rouges and criminals has been sent with force to Australia from England.

so now you should understand that why such comments have been made by ponting and if you see their attitude in field you will find they are different from all other cricket playing nations.

Ricky is at the fag end of his carrier hence such comments may enhance his stay in the team for longer than he actually deserves.

Though i endorse your view without any reservation, it is yet another sledging which is quite common in Australian cricket

Completely agree with your views, and Ricky Ponting's statement on this issue does not look nice for a man of his status and is deplorable.

Thanks Mr.Ayan Choudhary for the referral.

I think its a very immature comment [rather behavior] on Rickey Pontings part but its not unexpected. May be its his tactic for the upcoming Australian series with India. They always do such things before a series and this could be it.

I would also like to mention that no responsible culture/society breeds corruption/racism but its only a bunch of people and it could be anyone and anywhere.

I would also want "punter" to answer a question to himself that if culture breeds corruption then racism is bred by what?

In nutshell, Pontings comments are illogical, baseless, baised to the extent of being ridiculous.

Thanks !!!

Who is Ponting to make such a far reaching statement and that too from a confirmed racist. What is their culture or rather do the australians have a culture in the first place. Dont forget they are immigrants in their own land as their forefather have run away from other british ruled states to set up their homes in australia.

Coming from a person like Ponting doesnt surprise me at all. But the media needs to ask is bodyline bowling or sledging the right culture. These australians and brits are sore that they have beaten at their own game and roundly so. Also the fact that they are not able to make as much money as probably suresh raina does makes it even more painful to accept.

I agree there is corruption but it is has got nothing to do with our culture. It is the misdeed of a few that has given rise to such a situation and also the lack of stronger rules and policies on behalf of the ICC and BCCI respectively that has led to this sorry state. Isnt european football corrupted ? it is totally and effectively managed by Sepp blatter who has stayed at the top of UEFA for ages now aka our own Jyoti Basu. Dont forget who started taking anabolic steroids and other performance enhancing drugs to beat their rivals on the field ?

Before the australians or Brits talk about corruption or any other matter, let them set their own house in order.

Ponting is absolutely wrong....If he is right then Australians should have been the most corrupt people on earth. Dont forget that during british era, fugitives used to be dumped in Australia!!!! The problem is not with culture...Any body can be corrupt disregard of his background. But, when any indian or pakistani do this, it travel as a shockwave because cricket treated like religon here.

He always thinks this that "We are the world" and world ends at Australia, but it doesnt...

if he says this i would ask a couple of questions like what would you say to about people like

Hansie Cronje

and even Shane Warn who was caught in a doping test prior to India vs Australia WC final?

what culture does that suggest then mr pointing when u cheat on field under more then 50 cameras....?

Had Ricky Ponting said this few decades back his statement would have been accepted widely.Today corruption is gaining international acceptance not only in Cricket but in many fields.

Is South Africa part of Asia?

Corruption is universal. And, Aussies are no exception to it. In the recent election, they unable to get majority & going for Hung parliament leading to increase in corruption rate. They are, all out , to buy individuals to make majority.Note that coalition is there in briton too. Corruption does not see the race discrimination. It only see the extend to reach.

WHAT CULTURE IS AN AUSTRALIAN LIKE PONTING TALKING ABOUT  ??

THE ONLY CULTURE AUSTRALIANS CAN BOAST ABOUT IS - ABORIGINE CULTURE. Which they have.

The Point is... there is Huge Money in CRICKET in the SUBCONTINENT. Of which they are jealous.

Why!! Test cricket is the best form of cricket and that tests the real power of a player. We should not get lost in glamor and forget the roots should we??
