Research In Motion Ltd. climbed to the highest level since June after saying it will sell the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet computer for less than $500, suggesting it may try to undercut Apple Inc.’s iPad.

The product is very much competitively priced.  RIM, maker of the BlackBerry smartphone, will start selling the PlayBook in North America in the first quarter and expand into global markets in the second quarter. And Apple which started to fill the gap which was there in between a smartphone and a laptop came up with their tablet and sold nearly 3 million in the first 80 days of its release. And now not only RIM but also Samsung and others have forayed into this tablet market and are close on the heels of apple.  Do you think RIM playbook can challenge ipad's dominance??

The iPad starts at $499 for a model with 16 gigabytes of storage and Wi-Fi wireless technology. The price rises to $829 for a version with more storage that can connect directly to cellular-phone networks

There’s going to be a lot of tablets on the market so I think pricing is going to start coming down, also RIM is trying to differentiate itself from Apple and other tablet makers by stressing the ability of its PlayBook tablet to handle Adobe Systems Inc.’s Flash technology that underpins much of the video content on the Internet. The iPad doesn’t run Flash video or animation. So, yes they can challenge ipad's dominance for sure..

Absolutely, R.I.M. is gonna make a strong point by introducing its Playbook. As Mentioned by Taniya, iPad is not equipped with Flash technology and RIM is getting Flash along. So, I am sure there will be neck to neck and hand to hand competition.

I think that it probably could put up a strong fight but only time will tell how strong RIM will be. If apple doesn't make innovative & quick improvements, it might lose out in the market.
