Today many companies are investing or pondering to invest in developing social marketing using social networks life facebook. Will there be any ROIs on this investments? or is it a pure branding excercise?

I think there are real ROIs that can also be measured. Let me illustrate that using few scenarios

1. My friend buys a camera and shares his experience/review on facebook using an application created by camera company x. I too am interested in buying and  reading the review go to the website of the company x (the link for company x given on the review) and buy the camera. In this case company x can track that I bought the camera after reading a review on facebook. Isnt this a real ROI?

2. Everybody buys jeans. I buy a pair of jeans from  company Y website. After buying company Y shows up a message that 10% or revenue will go Unicef program for feeding children and I can add a unicef batch in my facebook profile. I choose to go ahead and add it to my profile in Facebook. My friends want to know how to get the same batch? I share the secret. The next time any of my friends buy jean, they buy from company Y. Isnt this a positive ROI?

Vineet, first example is fine but second one still i have certain doubts, i feel measuring ROI from social media is difficult because how would you measure long term brand awareness just by being visible in social media channels? How do you know if consumers are actually reading this content? And, how would you assign a value, aside from facilitating a brand awareness study, to this distribution channel?

In this Present times, internet revolution is going in superfast phase, every body is online now, most of the people are linked to social sites, sharing of knowledge is good and giving our own inputs makes the world know what we think and we can know what's the other people in the world thinking.

There are softwares that can help you create the documentation for the code. You can try http://ndoc.sourceforge.net/ .. there are other s/w also. this one open source. If you ave already understood the flow I dont see any problem in making the flow...
