As long as employees are treated as a resource they are not managers they are manipulators. Anyone who manipulates and fools around with innocence, sincerity, helplessness of an individuals are not human beings. They have no hint to what a human being is.

Our designation itself conveys the meaning. We are appointed by the organization to take care of the needs of the employees. All our day to day activities starting from training till compensation, ER are concerning only about the human resources. At the same time, any resource which is ma functioning or worn off should be replaced by the respective managers. We are also performing the same duty of lay off, replacement etc in order to keep the organizaition going on. Managers in the other department may not have to deal with human resources. They will deal with either machines or vehicles or records which are lifeless and may not have a personal impact on them. But we are dealing with people like us and we have to face some difficult situation and we are supposed to take some hard decisions which in turn give us a bad impression, which is inevitable

Hi Rohini, what you have said
is very true. Employees are the life blood of an organisation and HR
takes care of them. It not only keeps the internal people happy but it
also maintains relations with outside companies and people. The job of the HR is to keep people happy so that they work at their best.

Well said Rohini... I totally agree with you.
But I wonder how much power do HR have in order to implement somethin that's not liked by the top management but that's good for other general employees?
Most of the time I found HR have will but do not have power.

Nitin, Your comments are self explanatory to support
my opinion. Definitely beliefs, values, ethics and character are
important to make an orgnisation great. And these human factors are decided and
followed by the people working in it.
By taking care of our employees, we ultimately take care of
our organization. We put efforts on
our employees and get the result by organization. The ‘organization’,
is neither a building nor a machine but a group of people who make it live and dynamic. Maslow’s & Herzberg’s theories are
also based on this.
I would also like to quote the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “Not
gold but only man can make a country great and strong.” Also, I refer to
words of Mr Arindam Chaudhury, Dean IIPM, Delhi;;
“Let’s love people and use material things instead of loving material things
and using people. It’s people power which decides your future.” (in his
bestseller book “Count your chickens before they hatch”).

There is a difference between 'Nation' and 'Organisation' also between 'King' and 'Employee'. So, we can not co-relate them on Chanakya's statement, which is based on Nation's security, integrity and patriotism.

Already someone saild the relation between Organisation and Employee is something like Body and Blood, I truely agree with him. HR's role should be, to take care of Employee benefits and talk on behalf of Employee to the Senior Management. They should also take care of adding good fresh blood and removing the poisonous blood from the body in form of employee.
According to survey report, most of the time an experienced Employee is looking for a change it's found that they are either not satified with Company benefits or didnt like mamagements attitude.
Actually the problem is being an employee most of the times HR people do not have proper power in their hands.

1. The organisation is not a material thing like building or machine, but the group of human beings who operate all the activities.
2. The organisations are for human and not the vice-versa.

Hi All,
Any organisation can perform, only when the right people hired in to the system and if there is no employees in the organisation whether the organisation can perform??
Moreover the moral and motivation is the important factor to bring up the individual contribution to the organisation wherein that results the performance of the organisation.
This will happen only when there is a satisfied employees. Any organisation can perform only with the employee but not on its own.

Charan

Which organization can survive without his employees. in an classic eg organization is the body and employees are the blood, One cant survive without the other. In case of attrition as waste blood is ejected out of the body same is for the employee. So this is the time when HR play their role, Most critical roll but least appreciated.

In the long term perspective its the employee who plays the vital role in the growth of your organization. They are the true brand ambassadors for your organization. More satisfied employee brings more inputs in terms of his efforts, in terms of employee referrals....So, happy employee leads to happy organization.

Poonam: You must be knowing that if you have employees then
you have the organizations, am i right, if a company is treating its
employees as its Asset for sure they go places and to tell you one more
things people wont leave the organization rather they Leave their Bosses The
more you take care of your employees, more you get from them
(Productivity), for sure they would give more than expected and i have
seen this in many organizations Thanks, - Mirza

Well there is no doubt in the fact that organizations are made off employees and employees together make an organization running. The root cause is the basic human nature. So good employees should be rewarded and recognized and make the work place happy.

Every organization should think that their employees are the biggest asset for them, because when you take care of your employees you can expect the ROI in other words the more you take care of your employees then more can be expected Its nothing but Investing on them and getting ROI from them; if you have a better work place wherein people would love to work - Monetary benefits of course matters but at the same time if you are trying to make sure that they are getting other benefits like Belongingness towards the employees, Recognition schemes, team outings etc) one cant say that only employees are good or the Company it is rather Vis-a-Vis; if you take care of your employees for sure they would take care of the company Thanks, - Mirza

It is unfortunate and waste of time arguing over these matters. Fact one is getting into these arguments shows people are jobless. Where is the question of organization without employees. Employees working for a common goal is organization. They are not two different entities. Wheever this attitude prevails there is natural growth and harmony. One need not stive for it.

Which came first " Chicken or Egg"? Can anyone in this forum tell me which is better your left eye or your right? If you can answer that question, then possibly you are the right person to answer this. When you have two entities that become entities because of the other, how can you compare one to the other? Do you know of any organization that has survived without employees or can their be employees without an organization? Navneet Chandra

Basically i would not agree with your comments as HR by itself has a major role to play in the organisation. There is nothing as such that you are working for organisation or for people. Infact the candidate holding the position of Human Resource has to Stand for what is right , either at that situation it is the organisation strategy or people benefit. HR is also an human being therefore it is not only HR as a person who has to live eat and sleep with his/her company to represent everybody. It is every individual in an organisation is responsible for all the ups and down of an organisation. We as an HR have to ensure that every individual is embibled with all the policy/rules of an organisation. Please as HR do not hold everything to yourself. If any individual is caught with unethical value it is that individual who has failed and not HR. But HR can get to the root cause and analyse what went wrong so that HR do not have a repeatation of another incident. Finally we need to also understand that Organisation and Employees go hand in hand i guess that is what Nitin is mentioning with this quote of Mahatma Gandhi, “Not gold but only man can make a country great and strong.” which means EVERY INDIVIDUAL IS THE FACE OF ANY COMPANY just not HR. You could even refer movie Munna Bai MBBS(where the cleaner also is given importance)

This is difference Hem, we have forgot our ethical values, maximu organizations are working on the ethical value principles, which I have experienced when I was with TATA's.
Basic values of business for TATA's are integrity, transparency, agility, passion for excellence etc.
We have to understand Chankya's statement in present context. Since we are away from ethical values hence we can differentiate between nation and organization.
Treat your organization as a nation and give your full dedication, you will find organization recognize your efforts.
Nation structure starts from you -- your family-- your society---your institute--- your organization. If you serve to any component of the structure means you are serving to your nation.
Understand, we have to work for organization (NATION) benefits not for individuals (KING and OTHERS), Organization or Institution is happy means you are happy.
Chankya's ARTHSHASTRA, GEETA, VEDAS are still true in present scenario, ned to understand and follow, Therefore US and Germany educational institutes have this subject in their management course, unfortunately we are not.
Hem, writing down something is very simple, but relevent and useful writing is very difficult, therefore we are not like Chetan Bhagat, ZHUMPA Lahidi, we are in toostep.

The topic "Role of HR Professionals" is worth discussion. But the questions do not fit the topic. Whether one support the "Employees" or the "Organisation" are not related to the topic.
The employees including the HR personnel are employed by the organisation for its efficient functioning. The organisation prosper only when every employee including in HR share the vision of the management and perform their functions accordingly.
In many organisations the employees are the ones who share and own the vision of the organisation and strive hard to achieve becuase, their livlihood and advancement in life depend on the welfare and growth of the organisation.
Unfortunately, in true sruntiny, many HR heads who externally profess support of comany's vision, seldom seem to act accordingly with same commitment. May be it is good to have a look at how many HR deartments complete their tasks in time.
Excuse me in generalising while stating some facts, as I had come across many finely moulded HR heads and it is not my intention to slight any ones role. Many HR heads follow the HR school book methods and assumptions in handling the company and the people in it.
In fact the HR's function is to safeguard the interest of the organisation on one hand and look after the welfare and progress of employees, who do the organisation's functional tasks, on the other hand. However, often in thier approach to employees, they forget that their mere existence is for them and their pay come from their hard work. For example, the HR rule books give too much stress on inter-personall communication. But how many employees find it easy and comfortable to interact with their HR heads?
The HR heads demand to have overall indulgance in every functional areas of the organisation. But in how many companies HR had pointed out the short comings of the Corporate goverrnance of the Company /Organisation? What were the HR heads doing in those Corporates and Finacial Institutions that went flop, plunging the whole world into economic crisis? Mostly they act quick to look for scapegoats for all the woes of the company. Some case studies would show the HR's role in the dwon fall of quite a few companies.
To conclude. I support the Organisation and with that I support the Employees working for the organisation - which include the HR personnel also.

Well said Poonam, I feel organization is at big loss because employee builds his own brand who
actually owns the information, skills etc gathered with company provided resources. How companies will deal
with these personal brands when they outstrip the company, that’s an issue. If a person is able to develop a personal brand while also being paid
by a company and decides to cash in on the company brand while job hopping, I wonder should the company
also have an equity stake or commission in that personal brand when employee leaves the organization...

Well Mirza we can take it that way if organization is there then only employees are there. Rather i should put it in other words, they both are complementry to each other. But todays scenerio is that employees get benefited only if organisation is doing well, if company is in lossess employees cant be benefited. What i want to convey is that whole cycle starts & ends with ORGANIZATION, employees come inbetween. But at the same time organisation & employee dont exist in isolation.

Today what all matter is business. Employees are being fired if there is no project for them, if they are not performing well. Employees are being groomed, trained awarded only if there they are being benefiting organisation due to any of their outputs. So the whole cycle of employee satisfaction, dissatisfation ends up with ORGANIZATION not EMPLOYEE.

Rohit, Employee - Organization shoot out will be there forever but HR should give priority to organization requirements first...with organization, employees comes not the other way around. HR role should drill down to attract top talent,to foster competence and commitment among employees, develop the capabilities that allow managers to execute on strategy, help build relationships with customers, and create confidence among investors in the future value of the firm.
