In my view , RPO is another business model. If your company has an able Recruitment team and if your hiring managers cooperate , then you have the best hires. When you make each and every one responsible in the recruitment team and reward them for their contributions, see the results. You dont require any external support unless you require some branding support.

Own recruiting team is always best as the recruiters will have the understanding of the company and the culture of the company that they are hiring for.

if your business model is based on selling heads or seeds, RPO would be the best fit as you really don't care about aligning the candidate perfectly with the org.

However if you are concerned about a "Good-Fit" into the org culture, performance and growth of the individual, which usually product oriented firms care about, then you would build your own Recruiting team.

Alex I dont agree with you on your views. One of the major resposibility of HR is recuritment in addition to various other duties. So why shy away?

I can write a very long post on this! I will try my best to give you a brief overview about my take on this very interesting debate. You will have to look at it from a number of different angles in order to get a 360 degree overview of the pro's and con's:

Advantages of bringing in an RPO:

1) Biggest advantage is that while recruitment may not be the "core business" of your organization, for the RPO vendor recruitment infact is their "core business". Your organization can leverage their expertise, whereas you can increase your focus on your "core business".

2) RPO's have the ability to provide expertise at low cost (both fixed and variable), without diminishing the quality of service.

3) You will have a tighter control over your budget and will have greater ability to forecast and plan the recruitment budget.

4) Bringing in an RPO would mean higher returns from the time, funds, manpower and infrastructure that you have invested in the recruitment function. Tasks like sourcing, arranging interviews, shortlisting can be handled by the RPO vendor, whereas you can concentrate your resources into areas that produce direct results - interview and giving offers. This would mean you will achieve significantly higher returns and productivity from the resources that you have poured into the recruitment function.

5) Through the use of metrics and expertise, the RPO vendor can play a significant role in process innovation and improvement, continuously contributing to your organization.

These are few of the major benefits that you can leverage by engaging an RPO vendor.

Unfortunately I am running short of time now, I will end this post here and come back later add few other points plus the few points of "caution".

Regards,

Om Deshpande

RPO is better, because it cuts cost and saves time. It gives you efficient candidates since they have lot of contacts. When you get the best out of this why you want to waste time with your own recruitment team, make use of them for a better purpose....
