Good topic this seems to be Raj for initiating the debate and thanks for referring it Deepti. I strongly support such initiatives as one undertaken by Aircel as there had to be a start. Wrong planning by our departmental authorities, lack of initiatives by wildlife enthusiasts, poaching for exporters, hunting (in those early days and till not very recently) – all these were happening from quite sometime and we Indians were not aware of the actual state our national animal is in. Expecting department to wakeup even after all this is too high an expectation. All credits to Aircel (and any other such agency) for taking this cause and making us aware.

I agree with the fact that only by joining the community or paper work may not conserve them in practical but it will definetly help indirectly, and will improve the situation with time. And as Mr.Rathin said we were not even aware about this fact earlier so it would definetly help.

A modest begining has been made let it grow in to a snowball there after the effects will be felt. I would like to ask how many of us were knowing that there were only 1411 Tigers left in India.

1400 is good no of tigers . It is old issue of saving tigers . Ministry is the right authority to take care of their workings . Tiger Reserves have been created to protect the tigers . It is to strong no 1400 for ministry to save and increase tigers by redefining their plan for the issue . Only requirement is strong will and execution . People show symphty for tigers and wild life butt every one knows what happens when tigers and leopards visited the cities and town ships . People never let them go back to Forest thier life source .

Absolutely not and i agree with markand whole heartedly. It is just another instance of misuse of mass media. I frankly fail to understand how on earth can aircell save the tiger by just signing up people. I can understand if they set up a fund and arm the forest officials or educate the tribals to retain the tigers habitat in all its glory. But just promoting a cause for its own image is not worth promoting at all. It can do more harm to brand when promises are not kept.

It is the reponsibility of ministry to look after the port folio. their assinged work structure and role . It is very poor approch that few companies and brand entities jump into the issue and show their good will . approch is good but not expected . For every aspect of govt /role, propgenda and publicity is carried out ,is it marketing of crtical issues . i hope citizens have less value and voices for their rigts. could it be a planned strategy of publicity for chronic issues. it is at all not possible for such approches to conserve the tigers. it will not be having long term effects about reforms . Only ministry has to take measure and if required ask citizens for help.Is it the indication that the responsibile machinery has consistently failed for responsibilities.

India itself due to its diversity,is a unique model in itself which can't be compared with any other country.Hence India's problems are also unique,is'nt it imperative that the solutions to its problems could be solved by model building approach. We leave responsibility for everything to NGOs or the Government. When shall we stand up and rise and take initiatives to this model building? I suggest we should also follow example of Turtle brand of jeans where they are building a fund to save turtles worldwide. Can we do something wih a miniscule amount from so many huge direct and indirect taxes and come up with a semi government organisation as a model to take care of this problem? We can recruit social workers activists, retired forest officals etc. with some scientist(enviornmental) and see SOME CONCRETE ACTION TAKEN???

Its high time that dept of forest + NGOs along with govt authorities n police take corrective action by adopting serious measures like imposing imprisonment + heavy fines on whomsoever is involved in this cruel practice.....enough of awareness campaigns ... time for action....

I strongly believe that if practical measures are not taken now tigers will decline day by day and would soon be extinct.
As per the records only 1400 tigers are left in the country and if strict measures are not taken to control poaching and trade of animals' saving would be a difficult task.
Recently a tigers was killed in Corbett Tiger Reserve despite many initiatives; so friends it is high time that we start our tasks in practical.
I hope tigers May survive so that our future generations can also watch them and our national animal is not EXTINCT.
