With private players already on an overdrive (with sales as a prime reason) and government agencies pushing their ads (with some different reason), one really sees red when the children (across agegroup) get adamant to understand the meaning to what the ad sys - be that words / phrase / jingle. By the time you snub them and put the matter aside, the same / different ad appears again. Making you go faceless repeatedly, speially through TV channels, I really think either I & B ministry or ASCI should stepin and ban / restrict the releases, schedule a time width or find a solution to the problems that parents face every day many a times.

Conservative Countries Do Not show it in Media but there are other better ways to go about, where we either do not know or pretending not to know, and not doing enough on those fronts and incase it is Private players giving Ad then thinking to earn only revenue and not the basic purpose

I like to ask those who support this idea. Why there is so much hue and cry when ND Tiwari, Baba are caught in sex involvement? Because we believe it is not morally correct. Showing ad on TV doesn't educate our children about the issue. In fact this will create many wrong perceptions. I strongly object telecasting these ads over channels.

Hey Kashif, open minded that I am too and would love to do as you said. But tell me dear, what do you do when your 10 year old (daughter at that) asks you silly questions, irrespective of where you are and what you are doing? After a certain age, yes, kids should be tought about sex, its implications and told about items such as in context but not at all ages. Thus, I gave the option of restricting or creating time limits.

Well, we have Two choices; we either ban the TV at homes where we have kids who could raise embarassing questions irrespective of where we are or what we are doing or restrict the channel-access when childeren are around. But, isn’t it the kind of ‘suppression of information’ pertaining to the very natural instincts of Humans, since ages by our Soceity, that has resulted in the children acquiring this information from the wrong sources, like equally ignorant & confused peers or pornigraphic literature?

Advertising is way you inform the mass about the product, I do not see a reason if the purpose of message is to make masses aware, it can be done in either in staright manner or in vulgar manner If done in vulgar manner then it is not acceptable, now what is vulgar for some may not be vulgar for others If LSD (Love Sex and Dhoka) movie with all obnoxious dialouges and statements can be accepted by masses in semi urban and rural areas then how can you deny these advts It is all in mind What does a contarceptive advt tell us how to avoid pregnancy - well let me add there are girls as young as 12 years who are pregnant and girls in age group 8-10 who know about this I Pill or Nirodh So why ban , if you can watch FTV, Baywatch and yes have porn on net and videos then this is a must because teens are going to watch FTV, Baywatch and indulge in fansasy let them know about this advt also Here vide this advt you can create a social awareness about unwanted pregnancy and child care, why marriage after a particular age is doen , why teens should not indulge in sex and if they have to have to then go for protected sex, in short an advt can be used to create awareness- social awareness As I said it is all in mind and how you take it

Dear Santosh You have wrongly adressed me as her, its not her its he. Now coming back to the point about moral value. As per the proper definition, moral values is :- Value theory encompasses a range of approaches to understanding how, why, and to what degree humans should value things, whether the thing is a person, idea, object, or anything else. or beliefs concerning what is wrong and right in human conduct. If you see both places the term belief and understanding has been used with stress, the reason the moral values change from society to society, or countries to countries. So what you feel is right moral value for you and your near and dear may not be same for others, best example is the family and marriage system in India, there are so many variation in the same. Also you are very right societies and people world over are following our culture, but at the same time kindly also remember the fact that Indian culture has been liberal in regards various topics since time memorial, and best example for the same is the fact that, the best book on sex KAMASUTRA by Vatsyayana's is from India and then who can forget the world famous KHAJURAHO temple in india. India is beyond villages,Tajmahal and ayurveda, there is more to it than meets the eye. About wrong perception being created by the ads in young minds, then that needs to be handled, and the same can be done only after we develop a proper information methodology amongst us and our children. Also I am providing a link on the poll, conducted by indiaparenting on how soon the children should be informed about sex. http://www.indiaparenting.com/poll/data/poll005.shtmlRegards Also I am sharing with you various other links to similar and related topics http://www.thehindu.com/fline/fl2021/stories/20031024002009200.htmKiran http://www.whereincity.com/medical/topic/sexual-health/articles/506.htm http://www.indianmoms.com/aug-ezine/5.htm http://www.timeswellness.com/article/45/2010021020100209151906683e56ad73f/Sex-education-is-more-than-telling-teens-to-say-no.html Regards Kiran

puneetji, some how i can't agree ur view as, if it is not related to all today, certainly it is required after some time! this is the era where even conservative countries are talking about sex education in school levels.these are the products that has the right to get advertised in every possible way as these products are for good and not for bad.i do agree advertisements for these products should be more informative rather than showing in exotic manner which may have adverse effects on young minds.

Dear Santosh, I am unable to understand your unjust comparison of N.D.Tiwari & other Godman's with this topic. Let me bring this to your Kind notice that, Mr. Tiwari has always been like a playful character. If you remember, there was a Guy(Adoloscent) who claimed Mr. Tiwari to be his father. Also, there are all types of Godman's rite from the Bad guys to Good guys. I completely agree to Kiran, we need to Answer the Questions of our Kids SKILLFULLY.

Many thanks for all your posts Kiran. They mean a lot and made for a good read. Though I had started the debate and wrote BAN in the question, I had submitted in my posts that I would strongly support if the concerned authorities could restrict the releases or create time limits / specify channels for these kind of ads. Kashif, sure these kinda ads donot appear on so-called KIDZ channels but why forget GEC as STAR, SONY, ZEE that air these kinda ads regularly. BAN may not be the word but RESTRICT IN ANY MANNER should be taken up.

Dear Bilal I dont think there needs to be a ban on such ads. Because of the following information I collected online from various sources According to information available from the Guttmacher Institute, sex by age 16 is the normal age across the world, and countries with low levels of adolescent pregnancy accept sexual relationships among teenagers and provide comprehensive and balanced information about sexuality Adolescents may lack knowledge of, or access to, conventional methods of preventing pregnancy, as they may be too embarrassed or frightened to seek such information. Every year, of the estimated 210 million women who become pregnant, 80 million of these pregnancies are unplanned; some of these are carried to term, while others end in spontaneous or induced abortions In East Asia 39% 39% of the 40 million pregnancies that occur every year are unplanned, and 30% end in abortion. In the rest of Asia, 34% of 83 million pregnancies occurring each year are unplanned and 17% end in abortion. (1) Overall, a third of pregnancies worldwide do not end in motherhood for women. The data calls for a de-linking of the terms pregnancy and motherhood, since so many pregnancies do not result in maternity, and hence the need for strategies that take this fact into account effectively.
Avoiding unplanned pregnancies can reduce the alarmingly high pregnancy and childbirth related deaths in the Asia-Pacific region, where the largest numbers of women continue to die each year in India (136,000); Pakistan (26,000); Bangladesh (16,000); China (11,000); Indonesia (10,000); and Nepal (6,000). (2) A significant proportion these deaths--14% for south-central Asia and 19% for south-eastern Asia--are the result of unsafe abortions. There is also a high unmet need for contraception in Asia--an estimated 63 million women in Asia (except China) have an unmet need for contraception. Without information and services, women are more vulnerable to having unplanned pregnancies, which elevates the likelihood of their having an unsafe abortion Mistakes every body make, but no female should be denied the right to rectify the mistake, also there should be no such mistake, where in only solution for a female is death or exposing herself to death. Such ads do give infomation in regards to unwanted pregnancy, but at the same time there should also be a warning message, that continous consumtion of such medication can cuase permanent damage to females. Regards Kiran

The Topic of Sex, should not be kept in dark from the kids. All we need to is the rite way & courage to answer their(kids) queries skillfully. In any case, we should not ban such ads(unless they use shameful visuals) and Kids need to know about Sex, Condoms & Contraceptive Pills.
