Sameer is right but Doordarshan is prototype network. While viewing Doordarshan I feel that all news are censored and are pro-Government. The news readers appearing on network just perform their duty for pay check. Even their expressions do not appeal are attract audience regardless of the news is important or not. The news readers seems to be totally disconnected from the effects of the news as if they are citizen of some different country. Because of the above TRP of Doordarshan remains stationery and is a second option as news network.

Banned. Disqualified. Excluded. Expelled. Forbidden. Proscribed. Prohibited Are there any other good words to express my love towards 24X7 news channels? I saw the Breaking News on this channel another day which I also saw that two days back. They are ruining the news in exchange of entertainment. They can make a 1 hour special episode if they hear RAKHI SAWANT saying 2 sentences. They comment on one’s character with the facts generated by the cameras & Photoshop. No doubt they are providing us with latest happenings in the World. Not the news which will help us to grow intellectually. I love watching NDTV, CNBC and ET NOW. They have varieties of news shows which help me to get real happenings & knowledge. And also good exposure to the World we are less familiar. Be it a Technology, or about Marketing, or be it career oriented, or hobby oriented, or Quiz Show, or Bollywood, or a Government law’s unlawful activity. BREAKING NEWS:- I hate that Debate sessions held on Star News between Astrologers & Scientists. India TV is the worst in this case.

Recently the news channels have more or less started loosing the quality of content broadcasted to the viewers.Should news channels be banned to telecast news 24 X 7. Should there be a restriction on the general news for certain time slots in a day ?

Channels unable to attract audience will have a natural death and there is no need to ban them unless and until they telecast something really bad or objectionable. If not interesting viewers have the option to choose 100 other channels.

A news channel can only report a happening when it happens, they cannot or rather should not create a news, most certainly the channels have crossed the line of news reporting and are treading into entertainment which is unnecessary, but a news is the best when reported within minutes of the incident occuring so 24/7 channel with sensible news related content is a must and should continue

Yes Neelima, there is no necessity to ban 24x7 news channels. Unless they improve their quality they will have their own death. Yes, during recent verdict on Ayodhya judgment, almost all the channels has followed the restraint in reporting & conducted themselves. Some of the Hindi Channels has started airing selected programmes other than news in between. It is better let the channel die itself because of poor quality & frequent repeating of the same News.

Do not cut nose when it catches cold, better take medicine. Banning news channels will yield filtered make believe news only to be poured in. Everybody knows what happened to USSR when it suppressed lot of things like this. Everybody knows why Pakistan has to spend more on non-happening(or winning any purpose decisively) wars than on its internal development as the whole government machinery is making all Pakistani believe what it only thinks! News 24 x 7 channels do broadcast half-bake news in order to capture TRP ratings, sometimes show anti-terrorist strikes live and help the otherwise without thinking rationally (26/11 attack). But we cannot doubt their nationalistic feelings. Only energy of these professionals have to be channelised before they are used. It is constructive news, preventive news and factual news that is required and not "masala" news. It is discripline and not ban required on these channels.

The only way we are kept informed about what is happening around us and the world over is by watching the news. So why should it be banned?

But do you think it can ever happen ? considering the rumors going around that all the Media is being controlled by political/business groups. The movie Rann has tried to capture this . I don't know the fact about the same but seeing things going around Its hard not to believe in it.

No, there is no point in banning 24 x 7 news channels. Initially, they did serve a good purpose of bringing hots news to our living room, making it incredibly easy for anyone in any part of the world to get instant news from across the globe. Today, these channels have lost focus of their aim and are desperately attempting to bring in novelty by reporting news that is not newsworthy. That is the underlying problem we need to address. Banning these channels is not the solution. Instead, helping channels to define their benchmark when it comes to quality news is what the persons in authority need to do.
