Why only a single day? I believe every country should celebrate everyday as non-violence day and act on that. This is the only way to establish world peace and fulfilling the dream of Gandhiji...

I am seeing a wishful thought in this and I am still for it. Let us imagine that world over crime and violence, accounted and unaccounted is lowered due to observance of Non Violence Day, it is worth it. Why not 2nd of every month - is it too much to ask for non violence from everyone which means a halt to any violence whatsoever by every one including naxals and other extremists of various categories, for one day of a month? I think the frequency has to be an important element here. Most anniversaries are mere rituals. People scarcely observe even Annual Dry Days. They start stacking up by previous evening. This can be different with violence, but still I will add to the wishful thought: let everyone abstain from violence completely without an exception on the 2nd of every month. It is possible the calm and joy of that day will inspire people to repeat those days more than once a month.

Raghu again you have come up with very good thought. Yes I think we Indian should promote that OCTOBER 2 shall be treated as non-violence day. Gandhiji was the great supporter of non-violence and he is very famous and admired person through out the world. Everybody knows his contribution towards independent India by way of non-violence. I am not sure if we already celebrate non-violence day if not then I think this can be very good tribute to Gandhiji globally and simultaneously it will make our country proud. It could have been promoted few decades earlier but it’s never too late.

I dont know what you all will feel but i will speak the naked truth about Gandhi.Though we keep 2nd October as a holiday in remembrance of him but he was not at all so deserving. If anyone knows history very well(though congress came to power after independence and manipulated genuine details),i think he/she too will think that why to waste a day by declaring a holiday.Politically Gandhi's actions furthered the stay of Britishers and his actions during the trial of realy martyrs like Bhagat Singh,1939 congress elections and his nominee's defeat and his dramatic reactions thereafter,INA trials &his jealous convictions during the making of independent Govt really caused irreperable loss to India.Better make 3Oth january a holiday.Gandhi does not stand as a sole guardian of non-violence whose actions caused many filthy riots between Hindu-Muslims and oppression of Indians by Britishers.

Wow Raghu! 2nd Oct- Non violence day celebrated by world, after Obama, are U filling in for Noble Peace award! Jokes apart. It is natural for commercial entities like brands to use people who have become common cultural property. For politicians using Gandhi only as a convenient symbol, the problem here is not the choice of the symbol but the insincerity that underpins the use of Gandhi as a symbol. Invocation of Gandhi by politicians has become a tired ritual bereft of any connection to his ideas or the mode he proposed of resolving intractable problems. To his followers too, the memory of Gandhi seems to reside more in his practices rather than his ideas. Therefore the 3 principles that you mentioned, they need to be practiced first to mark the change, then only if we preach it would be heard.

Part of Indians dont believe in Gandhijis ideas. They denounce it openly .first we need to acknowledge That the father of our Nation Had a wonderful Idea for Independence and That was pure NON violence. Then we can think about the day as Non violence day. In thought and deeds letus Indians show the world first by emulating gandhiji and the day will be Non violence day on its own without lobbying or asking for it.
